The bumper on the '32 above is attractive, but that candy red paint, even in an old, relatively poor photograph, is amazing! I like everything about that picture.

I believe those "Briz" bumpers were aluminum -- and never, even when polished, were shiny enuf as chrome. I think they didn't look very right on early cars that had real chrome (or polished stainless steel) that outshined them.

Those 49 Plymouth bumpers start looking a bit heavy on that 39 coupe though. That might change it the car were finished and there was more to draw your eye away from the bumpers though.

The other three pages of photos show clean, simple and in a few cases maybe a far better look than original. Unlike a lot of these gaudy messes of bumper swaps you see now.
I've got 49 Plymouth bumpers for my 48 for the new build as seeing photos of them got my attention.

It's actually the front that is getting the Chevy license plate guard though as I have a wagon bumper for the rear.

My Nephew gave me a 49 Plymouth bumper I wanted to use on my 48 DeSoto.
When I tried it, just will not fit without lot of modifications. Too short, and I know of no way to add to 49 Plymouth bumper without cutting up another 49 bumper. I ain't gonna do that, those bumpers too rare to be cutting up.
I did consider making complete license plate bracket to extend the bumper, as we do have to run a front license plate in Virginia.

I really do like those '49 Plymouth bumpers on late 40's and early 50's pickup trucks, gives a mild custom look compared to the stock stuff which generally looks like a piece of box tubing. I've got a few of them stashed as well.

I have a 1957 DeSoto rear bumper that I was either going to use on my ‘59 Chevy truck years ago or the right/left removable housings on something. But it’s just taking up space. Soon as I get another bumper out from the rafters, I need to post a pic and see if anyone can identify it. It has ribs but is not a Mopar or Briz bumper.

The 37 DeSoto bumper had ribs. Only Desoto bumper that had ribs, then was the 49 Plymouth.

37 Chrysler also had a ribbed bumper, but looks quite a bit different than the Desoto, the ribs are smaller and all grouped toward the top.

That’s what is peculiar, this one does not have ribs like a Mopar but is full size vintage car bumper.

    Me LIKE, A lot.
My 48 DeSoto grill peaks also, not quite as much as your Plymouth. Did you have to add to ends of bumpers so would go far enough on ends to cover parts of front fenders?

  24. It took 3 bumpers to make these two. If i remember correctly they both were widened a bit. The was a small peaked piece made for the center of the front bumper then the outboard pieces were curved and welded to the center. The rear was widened in the center above the plate.
