  1. Yes, two completely different motors. the 2up 2dn was a std port flathead.

I have been lucky to work on some pretty impressive motors, J

  2. After a few margaritas, I decided to test out a new app on my iPhone with my Wells setup.
It's rough, but pretty wicked what technology can do! This is from about 60 photos all meshed together.

What a fantastic project! Did it run a Winfield high rise manifold? Did it shake like hell...?

  4. My surname too. I’ll dig out the Thornycroft front drive setup when I have some time.

  5. no, it ran two 2" throttle bodies and Hilborn FI
It didn't shake as much as it thumped, about 135 hp on gas

I had to replace the water inlet housing on the left side of the engine and was planning on using a cork gasket. Should that be ok or am I better off with paper?

  8. The crank is only half the fun
The cam is fun to build

I assume that you machined the crank from billet 4130?
    Firing order 1324?

  12. Well got my Gaskets from Renner's and I must admit, I change the cork top whan it drys out, but the washer size ones I rarely do. Changed them all. Also noted a fair amount of misc. settiment in the main part of the pump. Cleaaed it, blew it all out and put all new gaskets in. Will run it after work and report back.

Got the coupe ready in time for the Antique Nationals at Irwindale Drag strip this Sunday.

    Brought home some hardware too.

John, your are certainly right about that. Made patterns, had it cast, and machined this 300 CI, 16-valve four-cylinder block with blind cylinders.

The original block and two sets of rocker arms.

  21. I'm a bit more excited than I should be. The front cover is in the mail, and should be arriving soon. As you guys can see, it looks like it accepts the tang off of a distributor shaft.

I thought up an idea, essentially tapping the face of the cam, and running a bolt with the tang on the end. This would most likely be 3D printed, casted, then machined.

At this point, I'm not sure if it'll put stress on the cam but it's worth a test!

Its a 1915 Duesenberg racing car that finished second at the 1916 Indy 500. It has a 3-3/4" x 6-1/2" bore and stroke, only two main bearing, which are ball bearings, tubular rods, and a dry sump oiling system. It has three gearsets will do 125 mph on the middle set. Its the most original pre-WW1 US built racing car and the only thing changed on it are the block and the removable tail section. It was raced until the late 1920s and parked until 1941 when a collector bought it and put it back on the track at Thompson, CT. It's complete history is known.

    Wicked cool! Half a Hisso...?

  27. I was going through my banger parts shelves and ran across these Gemsa bronze caps and thrust insert. I bought these from Joe 25+years ago, when he was still alive.

    What's their history and development?
    Any benefit to running them?
    What's involved?
    What about clearances?

Or are they just paperweights and Gemsa collectibles?
    Thanks!
    Bill

This Ford Race was held at the Legion Ascot Park Race Track in the late 1920s and the clever owner of the #7 car "channeled" and lowered the front half of the body over the frame. In addition, the radiator was "sectioned," and the hood was lowered, giving the car a smaller frontal area for better aerodynamics.

@T-Head - I've always liked this look, thanks for sharing the photo. As you said it probably involved a combination of sectioning, channeling and lowering.

Does anyone know if there is a general description for this overall style - where the top of the fenders end up essentially parallel (or close) to the top of the body lines? It's a style that I see with a lot of early European cars. Example: (Atalanta)

    01_Atalanta.jpg

I ask because I would like to research or find more Model A's (or T's) customized in this way.

Hey guys, several years ago I saw an article about a young guy in the 50's that couldn't afford a car faster than his Model A, but he was working in a machine shop (I think) so he put a small block chevy head on it. I saved the article in my computer, but can't find it now except the little thumbprint photos. I searched Google and HAMB and can't come up with it again. It must have been on the HAMB when I saw it , but I can't find it.

Can someone come up with it for me? Thanks.
