Hi all, I have heard mention of people using an early chev middle crossmember (late 20's early 30's) into a model a frame, & modifying it into either a x-member or k-member to stiffen up the chassis, but I have not been able to find any "How To's" or pics at all. Hoping someone here could help me out with some pics?
    Cheers all.

Not trying to be a wise guy, but do you really need a how to on that?
    1. Remove rivets and member from Chevy frame.
    2. Cut to fit Model A frame.
    3. Weld into Model A frame.
    4. Fabricate K or X member legs that will fit your application.
    5. Weld in legs.

I think he isn't questioning fabrication technique so much as the geometry of it, never having seen it done before.

Frankly, never heard of such a modification, go back to your source and re-verify.

Rickybop, hit the nail on the head, it's not the "fabrication technique",that I can handle no worries. I was more interested in seeing what are peoples varying "interoperations" of customising this type of crossmember for use, if any.

Have seen something similar with an F100 centre cross member. The F100 in more the dimensions of a 32 x member.

  8. 50"s Chevy trucks have a cross member much like that.

I never heard of anyone doing it, Looking at the Chevy frame that I have the crossmember is pretty much in the wrong spot for what I want to do with the frame. it is right under the Bellhousing on the Chevy with the stock 4 banger.

No secret formula here, I think.
More likely, some good old self-reliant engineering is in order.

Determine where EVERYTHING else will be. Build a K-member or X-member that will fit, using whatever you think will work.

    Good luck, make some sparks.

  12. You haven't told us your long range plan but did mention X and K members. I'm pretty sure you will find 10 to 1 old rotted 35-40 Ford frame to 1 20's to 30's Chevy frames. Here's a mega easy Ford to Ford X member upgrade.

I have a couple of these squirrelled away for such a purpose.
Re Chev Crossmember I'm sure all of these things were done here n there but may not be mainstream. I guess it depends what you have on hand & whether it fits or not. It's peroid if not traditional.
