Have really wimpy horns in my old car and want something really loud. Teeth shattering loud if possible.

Not interested in aftermarket - I'm thinking boneyard all the way. (Back in the 60's I'd probably just take some Cadillac horns. Nowadays I have no clue.)

68 cad eldo were fairly loud. Sounded similar to a train.
If loud is what you want, go to a semi-boneyard or repair shop. Will need a small air compressor & small air tank - but you better have hearing protection when you pull that trigger...
    You didn't mention size... :) .

1989 Chevy Astro van. That's what I have on my '62 Chevy II. Loudest horns I've ever heard next to a semi^^^^^^

Roadrunner horn is pretty loud, and it even has his picture on it.

I'm not going the compressed air route (I actually have an old air horn (might even be a twin - don't remember) and it was pretty badass

Found just one 89 Astro horns on car-parts.com (wonder what year range had the same horns...)

That Road Runner horn: did they go Meep Meep ?

I actually have a hotrod a-OOG-a horn with control cable but that is more of an "entertainment."

Found this cool graphic showing FIAM horn db levels: Rock has the 125db new for about $15 + shipping. Need to see what the dealeo is on the FB, R and UB models. But I'm really looking for something that would mount where the OE horns were. NOTE: I'm going to look for those Studebaker horns - I think I have at least a set and would be a cool nostalgia sound I would enjoy.

LOL just discovered the 4-note Cadillac horn which is what I sort of remember. From the 90's so clearly available.

The 4 note Caddy horns are actually 4 horns on a bracket with a relay, Usually tucked under the fender in front of the wheel well on rear wheel drive Caddys. I've got at least one set saved for my truck. More authoritive than loud though.
I've got one of those after market horns that was advertised to be super loud that I was going to put on my wife's driver because she fussed about the weak horn.

In the old days we’d use a 6 volt horn on 12 volts…..

That's what I use is 6 volt horns on 12 volt. Find them at swap meets.

Probably hard to source, but if you get hold of late 40s. early 50s Mopar ( "Sparton" ) you can create hysteria. Even running 6 volt, ( preferred, sweeter sound than 12 V ) you can jangle the peace and serenity of any dreamer. Also found a commanding note from '90s Caravans ( yes that would be a Dodge ). They have the sound that I would call 'Highway Horns'. If you're into sweet, my vote is any Oldsmobile.

I replaced the stock horns in my '56 Ford Victoria (12 V) with a pair of 6 V trumpets from a 40s Lincoln. They are LOUD and can't be ignored.

  17. I used these on my El Camino. They are loud. I went through the Pull a Part using my electric drill battery testing horns.

I wasn't popular that day at the yard....18 Volts made them real loud.

Look up buck converters, you can step up 12V to 15 or 18V. Need to ensure proper amperage capacity.

OE loud horns are the simplest solution, but if you wanna get LOUD, bump up the juice. Use a common horn that's easy to replace :D

The Riviera air horn you show above are loud. Harbor Freight sells a look alike that are loud as well. 6 volt on 12 volt is a good bet for loud. No matter what brand

Right. In Texas everyone uses a gun so there's a huge supply of horns that were used once.

I prefer any 50's era 6 volt horns and run 12v to them. They are damn near as loud as those goofy air horns.

Pair of A B horns off any early to mid sixties Chevy. At a slight discord they sound louder than they are.
They are also an octave lower than most modern horns but lack that acidic edge to the note (a more rounded sound like a trombone, compared to a cornet).
Trick is to find a space on the car that amplifies the sound, if you can.

Yeah, some of the Italian horns are loud enough to bend sheet metal. Fiamm brand? You can buy them new for reasonable money...

I have an old high-pitch set of air horns off a 60 Reo mixer truck that are going on my duallie, pointed left to wake up the Kommifornia fast lane cloggers

They currently reside under my lathe, and have initiated several folks with an application of the air hose blow gun, and my compressor is set at 160- very effective

When I was looking for horns for my '39 Chev coupe I hit the wrecking yards. I found a Crown Vic that had dual horns mounted on one bracket, and figured I could use one or both depending on where they fit. I had room for both, so mounted it that way. They definitely get people's attention, and I like that when it's needed.
