Help me figure something out. I've had 5 spoke ET's on Clarence for 30-40 years. I want something that glistens when moving. The only thing I can think of is Cragar SS's. I never really cared for them 50 years ago and haven't grown much fonder of them since then. I've thought of polished Americans but want something shinier. In my opinion chrome outshines polished aluminum every time. Of course I could just go down to any tire shop and buy some 20" crap, but that's not what I'm after. I've also thought of chrome wire wheels but am not leaning that way. I think that wires belong on 1935 or earlier hot rods or luxobarges. There's always chrome wheels with baby moons, but they look exactly the same whether sitting still or going down the highway. Got any suggestions? Here's a pic from the Frog Follies sometime in the 80's or 90's: Here are pix from a couple of weeks ago when I picked it up at the painters':
My favorites on early Fords: '50 Merc 15" wheels (reversed Buick 6" rims on rear), chrome, with '50 Merc hub caps (thanks to Roy Brizio, who uses this combination a lot): Admittedly, they don't sparkle while rolling.
I bought shiny new polished aluminum slot mags because slot mags were so common when I was young. In the 1970s every 55 chev had mag wheels, After I put them on my chevy I was kinda disappointed. Now my chevy looks like every modern car. They all have shiny wheels and a 57 chevy with mags is a lot like all the other cars. I'm thinking about taking the shine off and leave them dull.
I like 50Fauds suggestion but that might not the cheapest or the easiest to duplicate. Good luck with beautiful truck.
The internet is a really big place ! Folks here see the same things that you see . Do a "search" (otherwise called, your own homework)...within Google...see what there is to see ! Mike
I've never been able to see the wheels on my car when it's moving down the road, so I never had any desire to make them glisten under such conditions.
Honestly, the color you picked will go great with the five spokes you have run for a long time. Otherwise, maybe something like true chrome OE or reverse wheels as mentioned above with no center caps?
Widest 15 or 16 inch rim you can cram in the back fenders painted a complimentary colour, chrome trim ring and stainless hubcaps that were original on that truck, same wheels but narrow on the front. These things look great on a wide variety of vehicles. Not green of course on your panel, but maybe cream with blackwalls.
I think you should just leave stock wheels and collect different sets of hub caps . They are shiny and can be changed easily when you want the look to be different. Most are cheaper then wheels and “Clarence “ can strut his stuff with a classic but new look every weekend.
Can’t beat chrome reversed 50 Mercury with the Merc cap or with bullets and knock off spinners my high school car 1964, rear tires sticking out a bit. …and 5.60-15s on the edge of the fenders
Wow, atch! Clarence looks great! I had never noticed that it was chopped when I glanced at your avitar. I don't have a wheel suggestion, but I think blackwall tires for sure and in a size that will fill up the wheel wells more completely......in other words, nothing low profile. Best wishes for getting "C" back together. Lynn
