I love road trips. I take them whenever I get the opportunity. The first real road trip I took was back in 1991 while my folks lived in Florida. I lived in the northern suburbs of Detroit. I took US-19 from Clearwater to Charleston, WV. The thing I remember most was stopping in a little town call Flat Top, WV.

I was thirsty and stopped at the local drug store, post office and soda fountain. I walked in and met tis old man who was about 153 years old and he was about 6'10" tall. He looked like he was 135 pounds. I went to the cooler and found ice cold Diet Cokes in glass bottles. It was like going back in time. I was waiting for the girls in poodle skirts. Nothing like a nice sunny day driving thru the south.

Use to talk with people that would tell stories of people driving down some of the backroads in WV never to be heard from again

Although not exactly a "road trip", which I would normally consider to be an overnight boogie, my group of compadres often spend a day driving around So. Calif. enjoying the less travelled roads. We recently hosted a visit from one of our Canadian friends (Olive Green 32 Roadster) and burned about 200 miles worth of expensive fossil fuel.

Almost "road trip" coming up Thursday. Heading up to Eagle Field from L.A. for a weekend of proper nostalgia drag racing.

  15. Just got home today. A little over 2,400 miles total.
Next up, NHRA Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green, KY. We plan to stop at the Custom Car Revival and the South Hoosiers Watermelon Run on the way there. Should be about 1,000 mile trip.

Anyone curtailed by the recent gas prices, just curious. Please, leave the politics out.

That's perfect! I think a road trip is what you make it - shorter ones can be a lot of fun too.
I'd bet most of us can find cool stuff to explore right in our own backyards:

Yes, in Calif. it definitely hurts at over $6.00 per even for regular and I burn mid-grade at a minimum. I have "curtailed" 'tho it may be in part due to my age and trying to reboot enthusiasm after Covid.

I guess one positive is in the past I would be more inclined to take the safe route and use my tow rig and trailer to tow my old rides to a location far away. But with the gas prices as they are is much cheaper to just drive them.

I’ve always like this vid. Even though they had a toad crew to support this trip it’s nice to see an old roadster on the open road no matter the time of the year.

I've been running between the Sierra foothills and the mid coast of Oregon on a regular basis for years... nice drive of about 10 hours.
Lately I've been making runs to Arizona out Rte. 40 (ol' 66) which has some brutal stretches with pot holes you could hide a tire in. Never the less, I do love me a road trip! Plymouth Winfield.jpg

  27. Let's continue this with 2023 road trips.

My schedule is just coming together. In early July I will be riding to Toronto area to meet Canadian friends. Our tour will travel the finger lakes area of New York for several days. Then home. Should be close to 2000 miles for me.

  29. Alan, It is a challenge to maintain a car like that in Brazil, because just a few parts are available at local stores, since those cars are american made and there isn't a lot of them around here, so I need to buy parts from internet sites like Dennis Carpenter, ebay, ecklers e etc... with import taxes and international shipping.
Forums like HAMB and Fordbarn helped me make my Ford have a nice stance and be reliable again, so it is a pleasure to share here pictures of my coupe.
