Primed some of the bare metal for now to prevent it from rusting. As mentioned, my plan is to get the doors hung and get it running asap, then pull the cab off this winter to finish metal work and cherry it out. Fenders we’re from an old street rod, they have so much bondo and lead it’s wild. Also test fit my spindle mounts, going to be nuts!

I’m loving all of this build so far other than the grille. It’s an eBay repro and it’s just not cutting it. I’m not willing to spend the money for a real one and even commercial grilles are pulling dumb money right now. Probably going to regret this, but any opinions on other options? I love 35/36 truck grilles, 37s and 38/39 but never seen one done on a 32 and unsure how it’ll look. A 37 is probably the hardest to find but I already have lines on a decent 36 and decent 38. Maybe this is a bad idea and should stick with a 32, but yea it’s just not doing it for me right now.

Progress a little slow with a 3yr old and 3 month old at home. Continuing to strip the fenders and collect some missing parts. This is thick!

Don't fall in love with the stock roof too long, it'll be getting a haircut this winter.

yea I’m indifferent but going to try. I’m a roadster guy at the end of the day. The more I poke around the worse it gets. It’s a predicament for sure. If I blast it, the roof, pillars, door tops will all likely be Swiss cheese. If I leave it, well it’ll never be great unless I sink way more money than just finding a better cab.

I was even thinking of cutting the roof off, doing a rpu like Nealinca (30/31 stanchions), maybe save the top and do some sort of Carson later.

I was searching the classifieds and saw a 34 cab for sale local within 40 miles. All that is good with my cab was missing on this cab. All that was bad on my cab was pretty much solid on the new cab. Sounded like a match made it heaven. Took a ride today and it checked out so it came home with me. Needs lower patches, a floor and a firewall. I’ll use my channeled floor, firewall and will do the patches myself this go around. The doors fit and it’s pretty complete so it’ll put me back on track!

Apparently was chopped (measures around a 4.5” chop) a long time ago and may have some history as a drag truck in the NJ area. Guy I bought it off of has had it about a year, but he bought it off a guy named Keck (John?) who ran a Willy’s Convertible gasser at Island Dragway in the 60s. Keck owned this for 30-40yrs apparently in this exact state (cab only) and was already chopped when he got it. I’m going to start another thread to see if I can find anymore info, hoping it has some history and I can revive it!

When I had my '30 A pickup, I was going to go with this style street/drag look .... I thought I would share the picture with you.

So there is some thought the new cab may be this truck from the 60s….more to come but this could be epic!

Started another thread to see if anyone can help track history, see below if you'd like to follow along! But the following all points to the possibility its the same; guy who had it for the past 40+ years frequented island drag and was heavy in that scene, cowl screws for a unique hood mounting, channel height seems to match, chop seems spot on, paint on truck has both shades of blue and shows the dark blue under the light blue which aligns with it evolving from a dark blue unchoppoed to light blue chopped...

This cab rules. Just made deciding a paint scheme easy as it did it for me! It will never get painted. Now to figure out how to match the bed and fenders! Still tracking down history, hoping I can connect the dots.

I spoke with John Keck, he bought this cab in Ledgewood NJ in the mid 70s. Didn’t remember from who. Was driving to Sirico Auto Parts on Route 46 in Ledgewood and saw it on the side of the road for $100. It was a cab, bed, axle, grille, hood. Hood doesn’t match the aluminum narrow but it didn’t mean that’s what was run. Was in the exact condition it is today. He put it in his shed and never built it. Sold it about a year ago and I bought it from there guy. Crazy thing is, Ledgewood is a mile down the road. So this cab is now ‘back home’. Still trying like heck to track down what it was before Keck had it.

Here’s the dash that came with the new cab. I was stumped what gauges were run but some help on here guided me to 53-54 dodge. A set showed up today and perfect match. Speedo on its way as well. Win win here; recreating what was run back in the 60s and the font is gold matching the gold flaked engine !

Some more pictures of the cab and the hood that was included and supposedly ran, even though it's an A hood. Seems to have a similar 'patina' and paint colors on the side, specifically a similar shade of blue on the hood sides. I may give it a CLR bath to see if I can clean up some of the heavy rust. It'll have to be cut at the top and sides for the carbs and headers so it'll be pretty well modified when done.

Even though I'm big against 'fake patina', I started testing out seeing how well I could match the fenders and bed to the look of the cab and hood. See the fender in front, seems like I can get it to look right. My plan is to leave the cab as is paint wise. It tells such a neat story, I can't bring myself to touch it. So my take will be my version, full fendered and stay true to what I would believe it may have evolved into as it's next iteration in life.

Working on collecting some parts and a few little things while I gear up to tear it all down and build it over the winter. I currently have my 30 phaeton on jack stands in the background doing a juice brake, drop axle, new rear spring, general maintenance etc. That will move into the backyard garage when complete and in the fall, then time to go hard at the pickup.

Another piece to the puzzle. Have a set of these on the wall and one was cracked bad. Found this one with 2 old school breathers so I’ll use them to make a good pair. I love how they mounted the breather, definitely not for the purists! Will go well with the vibe of this build

My whole life I played sports and hated being 5-6". Now I love it. This was chopped 4.5" pre-1970 and hasn't changed a bit since. First time back on a frame since at least then!
