Looking for any history on this 55 bird, purchased from an estate and the little info I have is sketchy. Supposedly built around 1960 and raced for 3 years, not sure where but possibly tge bay area. Mild custom running a 57 J-2 olds and 4 speed. Looks like it was shown after that. Have some California trophies but not positive they belong with the car, all mid to late 60s. Pearl with some very nice flames and striping. Will post some close ups soon. Rumored to have been in a couple mags but I haven't found anything yet. Any help or leads appreciated.
No history but hot damn that thing is COOL looks to be in decent shape , any more pics , and of the interior ? What are your plans ?
will post more after I get it cleaned up, very nice shape, was running last year. No plans except enjoy it
that is an olds.... 3 exh ports, the dist is not at an angle ... someone probably put those emblems on the valve covers...
@oliver westlund had a thread on this car last year looking for info... looks like it has recently been sold?
Similar valve covers to the Y-block but the studs are closer together like the Olds. Maybe the fins were knocked down and the Thunderbird emblems are tacked on??
@Moriarity Just a quick question for you or any other 55 T-Bird owners. Just looking at the single cable release for the twin hood latches, was there any provision included in the original manufacture of these cars, in case the cable broke when the hood was latched? As noted on other threads for 57 and 58 ford fairlanes etc, there is a rubber plug under the dash, to access the hood release, in case of malfunction ! Thanks from Dennis.
I remember seeing this car at the Oakland Roadster show (GNRS) or the San Mateo Auto Show in the late '60s or early '70s ... I've looked through my father's archives but didn't find anything . I'm guessin' @R&C RON Brooks may have some pics of the car . UPDATE: My memory isn't shot ... at least not yet ... I just found these pics in @oliver westlund's 55 tbird thread: 1969 GNRS trophy 1969 San Mateo Auto Show trophy 1969 San Jose Autorama trophy
As noted above by @HEMI32 , the prior history thread is here: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/55-tbird.1252016/
Don’t wash it! You’ll loose 50% of its value! Seriously, the car looked familiar. You guys nailed it. Nice looking ride!
Very cool car! The wiring on the driver fenderwell looks neat and well done for the time. For me, that would be an indicator the car was likely well built.
