My Neice of all people just sent me this one. Good old Arlington WA. Rumor has it this car survives in more of a street rod guise. Man would I like to have that Schneider sign!

    From above -

From the look on the drivers face, this guy looks petrified !
Sorta understandable I guess, with the tiny wind screen and no obvious firewall.

Norbert Locke's dual supercharged flathead powered dragster. Looks like when he went west.

  14. LOL!
There's 3 sizes of different style flower decals on the original hat from what I can see, I certainly could have had them all custom made for way more than I spent here, in the end I don't think anyone will care...or notice.

Nick Van Wagner's car, then flathead powered. Bruce Wheeler (of Wheeler-Dealer fame) took this photo with his then-girlfriend in the seat. Nick later swapped out the flathead for a carbed Chrysler...I once crewed for him.

Driver in motion, not car. This is "Lotus John" Morton warming up before driving the Surfer's dragster, with Mike Skinner looking on at left. Lotus John only drove the car one time before Mike Sorokin took the seat again. Photo found on Don Ewald's site.

    prudhomme2.jpg
Don Prudhomme in the former Ivo single Buick car, with Dave Zeuschel's blown Chrysler. The car was too short for that kind of horsepower, so in came the Fuller, Zeuschel, and Prudhomme car, that had a big impact on dragster design. This car went to Heth and Thompson from Denver, who raced it a few times before storing the frame outside. A flood claimed it, and so it is probably buried deep in debris somewhere in Colorado.

Two dragsters leave the starting line...I think that this is either Kingdon or Lodi (?). Photo from the Jim Roten collection.

Thanks...you knew Scotty, didn't you? He helped me on my own Ardun, even though he had brought his Chevy dragster out for the first time at Colton...great guy.

    [ 1st Chevy Dragster.jpg
Here's the first Chevy dragster. The second one, a few years later, was much more state-of-the-art. It, reportedly, was the second Chevy to run over 200. Scotty helped all the locals with their drag cars. Our drag roadster was what was left over of my 31 Model A pickup. Scotty would sell us parts at his cost and carry the account however we wanted or were able to pay. When I blew up the 283 in my street roadster he gave me a "parts as needed" P.O. to the local Chevy dealer and I came away with a brand new 327 and related parts -- no carrying charge. I said "I might just buy a new Corvette with this" and he said "whatever you need, I know you'll pay me back." He had a business partner back then that he drove crazy making deals like that.

This was the one that Scotty brought...we were hoping for top eliminator until Scotty showed up with this car. I cannot remember who was driving that day, dim recollection says that it was Mike Snively, but I'm not sure. When he saw our Ardun, he came over and quickly realized that he was looking at a couple of dumb 19-year-olds who didn't know much but were eager to learn. He told us how to set up the mag and the injectors, "start with what Hilborn said to run, then start changing it." So many racers helped us: Bob Sidebotham, Jack Ewell, Boyd Penington, Hippo Brammer, Leland Kolb, Jim Ward, top guys who stopped to teach a couple of greenhorns about how to run dragsters.

Wow, just seeing the old Dover Drag Strip again brings back many wonderful memories for me at 75 years old.
    Thanks for posting it.
