i first thought the distance between grill and body would be to large but really turned out great

This summer I really wanted to fire this thing up and run it to test the fuel system and distributor that @PINEAPPLE built for me, and just for motivation really. I wired it up and had it running pretty well. There was a little backfire out of the intake which I thought was probably just too much fuel. One of the strombergs I rebuilt was leaking quite a bit of gas from one of the emulsion tube channels. I pulled it off and rebuilt another 97 I had on the shelf. Put it back on and nothing had changed. Still backfiring. @PINEAPPLE was over one day and suggested we check compression real quick. Got all the way around to #7 and found the dead cylinder. Valve was not closing. Decided the best course was pull it and do the top end so back out it comes. Its on the stand now waiting for parts.

  6. Bummer! Thanks for the update. Don’t get discouraged, you’re getting closer.

  7. Great car and great work!
I see it and the seller’s remorse hits me again. Should have never sold mine.
    Keep the updates coming, please.

I didn't like the way I did the pedal surround the first time so I redid that and got it a little closer. VFIR0151.jpg

Small updates. Trying to get everything ready to go to the plater so I finally chopped and fitted the stanchion inserts. Had been putting this off cause im not very good with the TIG and these were super rusty and beat up. QXKA8913.jpg

Started working on the dash. Was loosely fitting the cluster when I pulled this awesome move. Did a little turning on the insert while its is apart. IMG_4379.jpg IMG_4380.jpg

Little update for whoever is still following. Was cleaning up the motor getting ready to grind the seats and do new valves, cam, etc and got a neat surprise. Going to test another 8BA I have and if its any good we will build a new engine. #flatheadsforever QKKE9248.jpeg

Sweet build. The stance is perfect and like what you did with the seat pan.

Bummer about the crack, not a great spot for it, either. Hope you have better luck with your next block.

Some cracks are good. That's not one of them! Hopefully the new block checks out. Love the progress. And the stance is great. Do a video when you get the engine running. We all need our flathead fix now and again...

Save it for later. Pinning and sleeving will save it.

Okay I guess its time for an update haha. The old Merc motor was cracked and a friend turned me on to this good running 59a for cheap so I picked it up and dropped it in.

I had the radiator redone to match the bigger outlets because early ones just look better. Also had to redo the belts and fan mount for 59a style stuff.

Built a seat frame and made a filler panel with a little engine turning for the firewall. 70883471581__9BC2A3DA-102B-4A49-9802-92FB313190CB.jpg 70873652308__F1551C16-A55F-410B-BA79-630037A8BF35.jpg

Basically trying to get all the metal work done before prepping for paint. Last pic before tearing it all down. 70494226873__7B991AF3-73C7-40BB-8856-48DC2207CA8E.jpg
