Hey Hey! Happy Friday! Here's an old boattail race car I scratched out during a show a couple weekends ago.

For anyone in Michigan, we will be set up and slinging art at the Michigan Antiques Festival this weekend in Davisburg. Come say hi and rummage through some cool old stuff! There's a car show, too!

  11. I can remember many diners similar to the one in your picture when I was a kid and working. I'm 80 years old and in my life so much has changed. I know it's an old line but I grew up in the best of times.
Thanks for doing what you do.
    Later,
    Dick

    Hello,

In reading about Manuel Reyes in another thread, looking at some old 36 Ford photos I took and another Friday Art that I drew a different 36 Ford coupe was enough impetus to do something old/new.
upload_2022-4-29_4-47-0.png A classic old 36 Ford 5 window hot rod… old photo for inspiration.

I tried chopping the 5 window 1936 Ford coupe and could not make the overall design work. It looked like someone stepped on top and would not let it back up. So, I tried it on a 3 window Ford coupe and with the back panel in place, it looked proportionate in various levels of chopping the top. The result was presented in an old Friday Art with custom flames.

The article on Manuel Reyes was inspiring. His skills are top notch and admirable. His design and build was a 3 window 36 Ford, but with a different style. A little more body work, lowered and added Reyes custom work to make it look different. Much to my dismay, I could not make any drawing work to look exactly like the skirted, lowered chopped Ford Coupe.

The first round was the dark purple almost black, lead in drawing above. The body panels, fenders the chop and angles were all different. They were harder to complete to make the look as close to the original as possible. But, art tries to imitate real life... YRMV

The second round was a wild color and bright red scallops that edged into the wiggly, early 1940s-50s flame arena.

Thanks Dick .....I'm a little younger than you but I love the old diners. The smell of burgers on the grill, french fries cooking, cherry cokes and the jukebox on the counter.

T shirt quilt the Wife created for me. You Know I IMG_3344.jpg have more, but I don't think it was a favorite of hers (something about the cheap t-shirt material). Oh, No HAMB/JJ shirts were harmed!

  18. Quick little update on the animated drawing I was working on. I'm tinkering with color and brushes in my program while most of the line art elements are done. just need to create the suspension parts.
