I know the feeling. It all depends on how much you want it. This is how my Merc looked when I brought it home in 1985. My avatar is it today. Got it drivable and worked on it after that. Ned CCF12032009_00003 (2).jpg CCF12032009_00004 (2).jpg

I am currently side lining my 50 Pontiac Streamliner until I get the stamina to start on it again. This long Covid is whooping my butt! You can get all the glass and seals from autocityclassic.com

This is reminding of the story a buddy of mine told about flying back east to drive a 55 Chevy rag top back for some local guy. Knowing him he got paid pretty well but he said that when he picked up the car it was a pretty decent looking 55 that had presentable paint and a fairly decent interior. he hit the road west and the further west he got the lower the 55 got. The floor and floor braces were so rusted out that the car was settling towards the ground as he drove down the road. I never did find out how the guy who bought it came out on the deal.

Interesting situation you have there... Would you be willing to convert the 4-door using the fas-back as a parts donor? Seeing as how you have a solid base with the 4-door, and the bitchin' lines of the 2-door. I'm not standing there, but it seems like that might be less work.

Ya, that's the plan now. Use the 2 door as a sheet metal doner. Still have a TON of rust to fix in the doors and lower 1/4s, but I have a solid foundation in the 4 door to work off of

Sorry for the poor picture here, but this is a glimpse of what my 58 looked like when I started and I had never even patched a rocker panel before. It seemed so overwhelming. Once I swapped the cowl/floor/big chunk, there seemed to be hope. Still the rest of it was so rough. I just looked at one small area at a time, fixed it and then moved on. If I stood back and looked at the whole thing, it was just too much. Pretty soon the things fixed list was bigger than things to do list. Looking back, still not sure how I pulled it off but it is still on the road and means a ton to me.
