Progress has been a little slow but it’s getting there

Also picked up another project. Why not pick up another while this one isn’t done. 30 phaeton, it’s all there. Will lower it, 16” wires up front 18” rear, paint it, do the interior and drive it

Didn't realize the space between the pillars on a 32 is narrower than a Model A. But judging by the amount of dash trimming it looks so.

Well I love the Gold Metalflake engine (that's what I did on my Coupe engine) and the Blower and the shortened bed.
Are you dead set on chopping the roof?

Not sure didn't compare. Trimmed about 1.5" off each side and it fits pretty darn well. Liking the way it sits. Now deciding what to do for gauges. Was looking at a nice chrome and white 40 gauge cluster to put in place of the round gauges but not sure it'll look right with how squared off it is.

Thanks. Gold metal flake has been on my mind for years, wasn't the initial intentions but it just had to happen. Not dead set on chopping it or shortening the bed, will wait until its on the road and then might do it later. I haven't yet had it outside to get clearer pictures of the proportions. In person it doesn't look like it needs a chop or bed shortened. But some different angles of pictures make the bed look a mile long. We will see.

Agreed. Can always put 6 carbs on a blower! I'm between running 2 or 4 strombergs, we'll see.

Rolled it outside today to get a look at some proportions. My god it’s amazing !

thanks! You’ve been tons inspirational on this, especially going fendered. Will be cutting the rear fenders where they are hitting then re-welding on the tail piece so it looks finished. When that happens, pretty certain the bed is going to look a mile long. Will probably shorten it 6-10”. And yea, eventually it’s getting a 5” chop. I was sitting in there today and I have a good 10” to the roof.

Shortened bed and modified rear fenders to fit the huge 32” cheaters. Bed has 8” removed, fender cut and rear portion moved up, fender lips also cut and moved up slightly. Little before and comparison:

I’ve come across some 18x3 radir spindle mounts with wilwood brakes that a buddy is selling, might end up on here. Need to figure out a radiator soon. Thinking of 34 commercial headlights on a dropped bar, not sure about tail lights yet.

Truly Bad Ass.... the stance is perfect and the attitude is bang on.
I laughed a little when I saw your steering wheel, because I have the identical wheel on my 32 truck.
White as well.... it was my $5 swap meet deal a long time back.

    Really love your build.

Thank you! Your truck is amazing, one of the inspirations for me chopping this 5-6”. I believe yours is 5.5”? I really want to go 6 but then I get super close to the top hinge and not sure I want to deal with all that comes with that. Funny on your steering wheel, this one I got for free from a local old timer who has taken a liking to me. He’s in his 80s, I’m 33 and he’s been a huge help in sourcing parts and what not. My plan is a full white interior so was testing the waters with a white wheel, I like it. Exterior wise I’m leaning towards white with a black heavily inspired late 50s/60s flame jobs. recently the Lee Pratt flame job has taken up permanent residence in my mind.

Here’s a down and dirty photoshop of where I’m doing with it. Of course it won’t be an exact ‘lift’ of Lees flames, whoever I end up having so the flame job I’ll give some artistic freedom.

if it's going to be a shop truck that gets used alot, I might not chop it that far

It won't be a dedicated shop truck in terms of how it's used, more of the vibe I was original going for but now it's evolved into a drag truck. I'm in the mindset of, if you are going to chop it, CHOP IT

Little more done. Lower doors and cowls are all skinned and tacked in. Aprons next and should be home from the metal shop in a week or 2. Have a shop doing some of the heavy lifting. I just don’t have a ton of time. My job is super demanding as it’s IT supply chain related with all this craziness since the start of Covid, add in a 3yr old and a 3 month old and I’m limited on time and sleep!

Sorry for light updates, should get more once it’s back home. I’ve been playing with my new phaeton while I wait. I may start a build thread on this. Bought it bone stock, was half oriented half bare metal so me and my 3yr spent some father son time patina’ing it. Yea it’s not real but i don’t care, and he had fun so screw it! He threw some water on it as I rattle canned it and when the water wiped off it left a great look. He works on it with his plastic tools so I don’t want anything nice. Just got the banger running with an fsi dizzy. Put on some 550-750s on 35 wires. Collecting parts for a drop axle juice brake conversion, will lower it with some reverse eyes. Then chop the windshield, redo the seats and leave it alone.
How it started when I scooped it up in January:

Brought her home yesterday. Going to finish up fitting the rear fenders and doors, rebuild the drivers door latch as it’s stuck,, grind all the bondo off the fenders then prime the whole truck for now to keep the bare metal from rusting. Then will focus on building the rest of the motor, dropping it in, wiring and plumbing. Plan is to get it driving, and shake it out this summer/fall. Then winter time blow it apart and clean up the rest of the patches, chop it and body work it nice, work out any gremlins, do a bed floor, flange on the fenders where the headers exit, etc etc etc. Not too bad for a cab with no floor as of this past October!
