Although the truck is not 100% HAMB friendly, I thought it might pass. The original photo was taken by my Facebook pal, John Kirkland. He gave me permission to work on it and post it.

I thought this image was perfect for a Norman Rockwell treatment. Hope you like it.

    Happy Friday "FAS" to all.
The pen and ink of the Chevy pickup truck is mine, the kids in the car is credited to the amazing illustration of Norman Rockwell.

    Hello,

In thinking back to our times as little kids and the neighborhood car shows that popped up in various locations in So Cal, there was a distinct style shown. Not too many full custom cars, that was for the auditorium/arena full car shows with all of the glitter and angel hair. These neighborhood shows were usually held at the high school football fields or local merchant's parking lots.

The small car shows were usually put on by the local car club(s) and drew mostly other car clubs and the enthusiasts that saw the telephone posters advertising the show. Sometimes, a friend from another high school would call on an old “telephone tree” to his friends

Telephone Tree: a name of friends on a telephone list that had specific people to call. It was like the president calling the first person on his list and then down to the next two, and so on. Then each person called a different guy on his own list, then the others called more, etc. Each level of calling had different names and the single person ended up calling people like on a pyramid drawing or triangular shaped Christmas tree. (1, to 2 to 3 to 4 , etc. )

Soon, it spread to another friend in another club and the news was on its way to “get the word out…” It all was done on a black phone with a chrome dial with holes.

So, my idea was in looking at what was usually at the local car shows we went to, the original photo just popped up with a similar color and design. As we all know, scallops started the art trend of developing into wavy lines, those wavy lines got some curves and then in the long run, turned into some raw looking flames. Then the same thing advanced in the flame world. Those early raw flames resembled crab claws. Then the tips extended for a better, smoother design and then we now see various fancy curved flames of all sorts.

The scallops were also simple and turned into fancy designs, straight or wavy. Even in early drag racing coupes and designs to the more recent mild custom designs for the street.

I might be riding the HAMB-iness line with this Econoline, but I gave it a Watson-esque kustom paint job to make up for it.

I worked many years in the former plant where this Aircraft was developed and died and my inspiration above with the Hotrod is a Commercial What If several years after should the plug not have been pulled in 1959...It's fun to dream as it pulls one away from the realities of life that are NOT so dreamy...

Some of the things Avro did after Black Friday was Aluminum Cruiser Boats, an Automobile and no doubt several other potential lifesavers but they closed up shop in early 1960 or so after chopping all Flightworthy and in production Arrows to pieces literally with the gas axe...

    Happy Friday All...

    Have an Artfully Grand Weekend...
