Just found bulb fixture. They are named a “ Bayonet Bulb Socket”. 8184D65A-9081-4368-8E93-690D707DD551.png 8184D65A-9081-4368-8E93-690D707DD551.png

  3. As for the windshield regulator, it must be completely disassembled to replace the gear. I did it in mine. After you get the knob off the top of the dash you need to remove the entire dash. then the regulator can be removed from the windshield and the mounting bracket off the firewall. the rivets will obviously need drilled out to remove the gear, but you will also have to drill out the rivets that hold the regulator arms to the regulator frame. then you can get the arms off to replace the aluminum gear. use steel pop rivets for the gear, not aluminum ones. Weight of the windshield combined with a pot hole can shear them right off. That happened to me on the way home from Bonneville last year. For the regulator Arm rivets, I made thin aluminum spacers for the arms and button head allen bolts with Ny Loc nuts to reattach the arms. This works well, remember the arms need to be snug bit still be able to move. The original rivets that held them on were shouldered to allow this. Just make sure you have it clocked in the right position when you reassemble it, so you have full travel in and out.

Jason , thanks for great reply. Fortunate to have a local friend that has a new Aluminum/ Pot Metal gear for me. He was smart and bought a 1/2 dozen years ago.

Hi Guys . Dreaming about a OD trans.
) Is a 39’ Coupe & 39’ Sedan have the same floor pan in front of rear axle ?
) I measured 17” from rear of Torque Tube forward to where Floor steps down. I tried looking up Mitchell specs . Any one now how forward from Torque Tube a Mitchell gear box is ?
    Thanks. Stretch

Gentlemen, anyone have Mullins OD info ? Mullins did call me back today , but I missed call as I was attending to a family member. As I can not find their OD specs online.
I am dreaming / looking into a fairly new used unit , that is coming up for sale.

    Beautiful car, enjoy that ride!

Id suggest a new post with a title specific question to garner some replies.

  11. I researched all aspects of an OD for my 39. I even tried to figure out how to put a Lincoln OD trans in it. Every avenue required rework of the floor and shortening the torque tube. In all honesty your easiest ( and cheapest ) path will be a world class T5 adapted to torque tube. There are several sources for that. I believe @thunderbirdesq has done some for guys and he is in PA so not terribly far. The X member is the real problem with any overdrive upgrade in a 35 to 40. I ended up swapping everything out from the trans back and using a 3.03 ford 3 speed with a Jeep shifter and 9 inch rear. I will be swapping to a mustang t5 in the spring. Here is a shot of mine after the trans swap. It’s a ridiculous improvement.

56CE996D-28F9-4CE2-9B29-E5C19A2C3506.jpeg Hello. So I am trying to determine how far this 39’ Sedan has been lowered in the rear ?
I measured 4 1/2” from the top of axle tube to bottom of the frame arch.
Would you guys know the stock measurement ?

  16. Nice looking 39! I bought mine last year from Georgia after having to sell my 39 Deluxe Coupe. I’m currently having the ‘48 59AB rebuilt. Hoping to have it back on the road by the end of April.
Changes made so far is adding the front nerf bars and color change on the wheels from red to copper. Next is taller rear tires, pinstriping, and possibly louver the hood.

I considered a Mitchel O.D. for my 41 pickup. You should contact them ; there are advantages that I hadn't considered. It will fit without frame mods to your 39 and will allow you to get into first gear without stopping. It fits close to the rear end and may only require only slight mod. to floorpan. Call them.

Firing order is firing order, looks are secondary IMO. I too have a mallory crab (dual point) on a 59A. Looks right, firing order is right.

I passed on the plastic/jute firewall pad. Full strip down of everything on it, start over, no thanks. I'll use closed cell foam on top, something vinyl covered in 3/4 on the big flats, foam behind the heater.

Yours and the others keep me fired up trying to get mine done (39 std).

Scooter - very nice 39’. Like it

Joel. I slid the Torque Tube out, temporarily put Mitchell in . Jacked spring up in location and OD clears floor pan. It will not effect the Trans shift into 1st gear. Still have to almost come to a stop.

HighLander thanks for response on plug wires . Upholstery friend is stopping by tomorrow. We are going to discuss making a new Firewall Pad.

I know this is late but someone may be able to use it. I found it on VanPelt's site. There is an awful lot of useful information on his web sight pertaining to our old Fords. That Mitchel OD looks like a great piece and should install very easy. Hope that easy comment doesn't jinks you!

I'm still amazed there are any left after all of the roundy-pounders that were built over the years from 39-40 Fords.

Rear looking good in paint, Stretch.

So how long before I get another ride? BTW you should stop over. The shop is actually clean right now. Probably not for long...

Install firewall pad, dash , garnish mouldings , floorboards, OD cable, finish dash harness, new front brake lines, bleed brakes from scratch & 12 volt fire up for the first time .
    Other than that, not much.
