I just couldn't bear to cut mine up so I replace the cardboard glove box with a tin one with room for a radio. I mounted the gauges in a separate panel under the original dash.

Older threads can be fun, pic's n storys are extra fun n timeless!
Some things are not seen right a way at first in details .
The last custom dash I worked on,was helping my son Lance, with his T-bucket.
The old used T body he got, n reused, had had a lot of holes chopped in too it, most in not the places he needed any holes .
After playing around with a number of drawings for ideas. I cut out a cardboard pattern for a wood flamed style dash.
He took about 3 weeks, looking around town to get the prefect peace of wood to make it with.
He was looking for a wood grain pattern that would match up as well as possible with both the flames an gages= With biggest MPH center gage to be in center of knothole grain. 017.JPG IMG_0516.jpg
Lance ,named his hot rod "Pandora",telling me cuz of the unknown probs that kept poping up,an we over came together !!

Here's one I recently did for a 34 Dodge. Everything was missing except the dash sheet metal. Hammered the frame out of some stainless sheet. The backing for the gauges was some aluminum trim salvaged from a vintage Shasta travel trailer (my brother restores vintage campers next door). Not my favorite gauges but it's a customers car, he chose them.
DSC_0142.JPG Made up a matching glove box door and frame as well.

Recently finished this as well although it's probably too street roddy for here. Widened the stock 32 opening so I could fit the 5 gauges, built a new stainless molding for the bigger opening. Fabbed up a lower dash to hold the switches and the A/C bs.

Here's Clarence's dash from a couple of months ago. It should be turning Washington Blue any day now. 1948 F-1 Ford panel truck.
