Hot Rods Where did it go? My Model A “Project 29” from New Zealand

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Greg Stokes, Jan 30, 2019.

  1. I built this thing in NZ and probably sold it sometime over 10 years ago and it ended up in the USA. I have lost track of it and would love to know where it’s gone.

  15. Well, after finding the email account attached to my HAMB account I was able to reset my password to get back on here.

Towards the end of last year I was able to make a deal with the guy in Idaho to get my Project 29 back. He was excellent to deal with.

Then the true gentleman of hot rodding, Squeak Bell was doing a car drop off in Oregon and was able to go across and pick up Project 29 for me. It is sitting at his shop in Bakersfield.

So grateful to have a chance at getting it back and I cannot wait to see it. I have pics on my Instagram but I will work out how to get them on here.

Id love to see some of that torsion bar suspension, I had toyed around with that in my mind for years now, just never have made it happen. How does it drive on Bars? Plush ride ?

Glad you got it back, seems it was not all hacked up and was worth grabbing back. Great to see.. Congrats man

  24. Honestly, the torsion bars far exceeded my expectations. I will see if I can find some pics. There have been a few small changes to the car but nothing major to change back. Thanks for your kind words. I cannot wait to get to Squeaks and see it again...

  29. EEA65DD2-ADA4-457E-A0D0-7C504BFBEDC4.jpeg I first built this pickup in NZ around 2001 then rebuilt it two more times into the guise shown here. In 2009 i sold it to a guy in Utah.

It passed thru two more owners in Idaho - one who fitted a 66 Vette 327 with 3x 2’s. I met Jim “Jake” Jacobs at GNRS 2019 when they had the Model A exhibit. His fun with Model A’s inspired this one. We got talking and he knew of my pickup.

A light went on in my head and i wondered where it was. I tracked to Idaho - talked to the guy for a year and we struck a deal. Squeak Bell picked it up for me and stored it in Bakersfield. Last Wednesday i arrived and by Thursday i was at Squeaks looking at my pickup for the first time since 2009. So emotional but thankful that only a few small things had changed over the years.

This past weekend it was fun to run at Irwindale then i stayed at Jakes Sunday night then Monday we cruised around Apple Valley in our cars together. Back in 88 when i read the Rod & Custom with his tub and Limefire on the cover I never imagined i would meet him let alone become friends and then hangout with our cars. Dream come true stuff!

On the way back to Bakersfield i called into El Mirage for photos. I am going to RPM Drags, Early Times Picnic and go home after the Roadster Show.

    Massive thanks to Squeak! 92515326-5976-4579-9580-0F7AA4D5C814.jpeg B59D5F74-56D8-4846-ADF4-736EAE0D610F.jpeg F353CD07-3F57-4283-8EA1-D5F30DC0E9A7.jpeg E04466CF-6DFF-4F54-9287-1CC8652BB55B.jpeg A583DD14-70AA-467D-A57C-35D204BECBDA.jpeg 632ABB48-BFE7-40A2-BAA0-D00B186E0D3D.jpeg 60111F3E-67A3-4F84-8EA6-CF0028C3E631.jpeg DACB71A4-EEF3-40BC-B284-671DE261261B.jpeg 110DCF09-5D61-426F-83A8-D05AFEF49167.jpeg EEA65DD2-ADA4-457E-A0D0-7C504BFBEDC4.jpeg
