It is a Ford T, but I'm not enough of a T nut to know what year.

Its a model T for sure, 16 was the last brass radiator, and 23 started the slanting windshield. So gramps T would be a 17 to 22. And of coarse we all know T's were black, so gramps must have snazzed his up a bit with a paint job

    Very cool!
Imagine growing up in the era when cars, motorcycles, motorized machinery were all new or fairly new inventions...

I would have loved to. Cell phones and self driving cars don’t really do it for me. Indoor plumbing is kinda nice though.

The Cat is a 60, so called cuz of the 60 hp rating. Looks too big to be a 30. Nice pictures.

Looks like Gramp had some cool toys and a Cat to make the money to buy more. What’s the contraption next to the Cat?

I asked my grandpa what the greatest invention that he ever saw. He died at 99 back about 10 years ago, so he had seen everything. He thought about it for a second and said “The Spare Tire”.

My guess would be 1917 to 1919. Pre '17 would be a brass car, and by 1920 demountable rims were pretty much standard equipment.

Looks like a road maintainer (Road grader) and dirt mover. How would you like to turn all those adjusting wheels all day?:)

We had to put my mother in nursing home , she will be 94 on Thursday , just not capable to be alone any longer .
I am cleaning out her home , found some things I had not seen previously or, I had forgotten about .

Grandpa ended up being a blacksmith , he had a welding shop .. made tractors out of cars during the war stuff like that.
although I have yet to locate it, there is a letter somewhere from FDR that basically he said was needed at home to keep farmers equipment repaired that was his war time expectation , I seen it when I was pretty young and I know mom had it ..

I was thinking the same thing. I reckon I'd be compelled to pose for photos with these novel machines, much like OP's grandfather. What an awesome set of photos.

What kind of dog was that in the bike picture? He must have been a damned good man because it looks like that dog really loves him. I’ve heard that before about the spare tire being the greatest invention from other old timers. Also serrated knifes for slicing bread? Ahh, simpler times.

Also, no kerosene side lights on grampa's car, so it was one of them fancy electric start models. Electric start came out in mid 19, so 1919 to 1922 would be a closer guess

My mothers' and three older brothers' roots are from South Dakota, never been there, "they tell me it's nice".
Actually, I remember hearing stories that say differently, was a pretty rough environment in the 20's and 30's, especially in the winter, recall comments like "we stayed warm when we could find an abandoned old Chevrolet to dismantle for the wood".
Often wondered if that was why they are much more rare than Fords.
Now I need to look for family photos with their old cars.
