Hot Rods Does anyone ever use 14" wheels/rims anymore?

  1. I too have a poor man's rake. These old 14's came on it in the 70's. 167.jpg 009.jpg

If you go to eBay and type in 14" white wall tires there are a ton of options, most sizes around $300-$350 for a set of 4 shipped to your door. Blackwalls even cheaper. I'm sure they're hard to find at the local tire store, but the local tire store is a ripoff and doesn't stock shit for 15" either, unless you want some low profile late model looking shit.

Truly correct looking bias ply tires of course are going to be much more expensive. But they're even more yet for the 15" size, and you'd have to special order them either way, so that's no excuse either.

We have the internet. Everything available to me is available to everyone else here, so I disagree that they're hard to find.

  13. No.
But maybe a thin white wall stretched over a way too wide Astro supreme. Mmmmm

  14. I still have the 14" keystone mags that were on my 63 1/2 Flacon Sprint, when I bought my 64 Falcon I decided to clean them up and pit them on that car but because of the offset they didn't work. HRP

That's the big problem, unless you go to Coker or one of the other vintage tire suppliers - the biggest you can find anymore from the general tire industry is 215/75R-14, which is just too small for many cars.

I use 14in. front,n 15 rear on my 28A Bobtail for a long time now..
The 14in, fronts came about when long ago I was given 4 alum Slots/two 15 n two 14. from a good bubby Eddy Silva ,RIP,who knew I loved Indy-Slots,but at I ran, just black steels with beauty rings n chrome nuts,<all 15.
Ed sold car he had, with out the Slots he had on it,an gave them too me:D.
I had to redrill the 14 fronts to fit my 48 hubs, but 15 rears bolted up.
I still love the look, like Indy race car. Now days, finding it hard to get 14in, front tires at what I think is $,I can do. I've used up a lot of tires over the years. 15 are still EZ to come by.

    On my son's Anglia.

Edit: On second thought, they may be 14s rear and 13s front. Fairlane GTA on the back and Vega - I think? - on front. Pretty close match.
    Same concept - big-n-littles.

Ahhh the Foresight Ventures . I have a set (4) of Foresight’s 15”x6 sitting up in the garage loft. Cool looking wheels but Ford/ Mopar bolt pattern doesn’t work on my Chevy (with out adapters) so using as dust collection apparatus.:p

if your car was originally equipped with 14-inch wheels, and you want it to remain original, stay with 14." If you want to install disc brakes, there are kits that will work/w 14s, but your choices will be limited; same goes for tires. Personally, I prefer 15" and would consider stepping up to 17, if I wanted larger than 11" discs.

There are better ways to change the ride height than by running two different wheel diameters, and forget about rotating tires.

I have Goodyear 215/70R15 blackwalls on all four corners on my 55 Tbird. I bought the tires from America's Tire. If they had to be ordered, it couldn't have taken more than a couple of days for them to arrive. I had to wait much longer for my 10-spoke alloy wheels and came very close to canceling the order.

  25. Yup, I run 14s all around on my '50. One of my '63 Galaxies has 14s all around and another has 14s on the front and 15s on the rear. It's getting real hard to find larger 14s anymore so things might change in the future.

With the limited selection of tire sizes available for 14" wheels, I avoid them like the plague. Just impossible to get certain sizes for some 14" wheels, and even in narrow sizes the selection is very limited.

My 1964 El Camino came with 14 inch wheels but I upgraded to 15 inch rims a few years ago, the 14 inch tires just got too expensive. HRP
