That reminds me of a radio promo for a ZZ Top concert some years ago: "Fast cars. Long legs. Cheap sunglasses. This is Rock and Roll. This is ZZ Top!"
I try to draw a parallel between the little ol band from Texas and the cars we love. They were old, loud, simple, in your face, proud, always surrounded by Beautiful women. Whats not to love... or understand? RIP DUSTY
Been a ZZ Top fan since I was a teen in the 70's. I recall my friend picking me up for High School one AM, says "have you ever heard of a band called ZZ Top"? He says my Sister loaned me this, check it out. Pops in a Fandango 8 track-I was instantly hooked. "Ya got ta mellow down easy"! First saw them at San Diego stadium, 1976 "World Texas Tour" , where they 'brought the State of Texas to the people'. A HUGE stage in the shape of Texas (tilted at an angle) complete with Longhorn, vultures, rattlesnakes, cacti, etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worldwide_Texas_Tour God speed Dusty...
Whew, still reeling from the shock. These guys are legends especially here in Texas. Their music, particularly the older stuff, was so amazing at the time. Of course there are many great bands of that era but ZZ Top certainly had a uniqueness like no other and not too many can claim the longevity that these guys have had. They were also quite vigilent at spreadin' the Hot Rod gospel. Lets all pray the good Lord will "Have Mercy" on a beautiful soul.
I just saw a video from last Friday’s show. It seems that they knew Dusty was not going to be able to continue with the band. New guy didn’t miss a beat. I think they are going to be alright.jmho. Snowman
Thanks for the pics and vid links guys. My favorite band for sure. Saw them half a dozen times. Last was in Cleveland in 2019 for the Fiftieth Anniversary tour. R.I.P. Dusty you will be missed.
I just watched the episode on King of the Hill where his cousin “Dusty” comes to visit. Cracks me up.
i wonder who they got to fill in for dusty, they are going to be at the iowa state fair to do a grandstand show this august, some claim the beatles to be the best, but as a car guy back in 1970 it was ZZ in the 8 track that did it
