Thanks for the Holyoke pictures, I have a lot of fond memories of Holyoke in the 50's & 60's. The picture of the clotheslines and the back of the tenements are similar to my grandmothers apartment.
There is a Pinecrest facebook page with History... I believe they started further in the city in some sort of pits. I received my drivers license in 67 as well!
@CDN FORD FAN thanks for the link, still find it odd I did not recognize the track. They raced at the Canadian National Exhibition from the early 50's, they even held a NASCAR race there, Richard Petty's first. It was an absolutely flat track, racing was a big deal in Toronto at the time with reporters from all the dailies covering the events. The was also a track called the Oakwood Stadium which was sort of mid town Toronto. Further north there was the dirt track on Highway 7, Speedway park, they raced "big cars" (sprinters) there. My uncle drove for a fellow by the name of Lloyd Shaw who had quite a racing history himself. Then of course later there was Pinecrest. The stands by 67 were all covered as I recall but what threw me was the inside retaining wall, I just don't remember it at all. Congrats on 67. They were great times!
