A number of years ago, I was invited to attend a function, at the Jack Mindenhall, family compound down in Buellton California for the annual one day event known as the
( GAS UP ) These are just a few of the cool items that are at that amazing place.

I could perhaps include the drawing I did last weekend for my Everyday A thread:

Future Corvette with 292 c.i. SBC 671 motor… after Jan 1961. Tahitian Red 292 c.i. SBC blower spec motor with 671 supercharger and now with a two port Hilborn Injector and some big M&H slicks, as well as a C&O Stick Hydro.

    Hello,

In August 1960, tragedy struck our drag racing program. We were stuck as a burn recovery saga took over and for the next two years, it was a hard road to follow. But, the end goal was recovery and that was ok with my brother and me.

We gave away the burned out wreck of our 1940 Willys Coupe, although the body, fenders, hood, trunk were all in excellent condition. Only the motor compartment and interior were soot covered and burned out. But, saving the whole car was not in the picture at that moment. Even our friend did not want the pristine spare parts for his immaculate 1940 Willys Coupe build. Bad JUJU’s and all of that thought and theory.

During the recovery period, we looked back at what we had done to learn about hot rods and engine building techniques and methods. We still kept our “fingers in the pie,” with our local hot rod shops and drag racing friends. The local speed shops were very gracious without being overly condescending. They knew the spot we were in at that moment in time.

So, my brother and I ran over many ideas for our future in hot rods and drag race projects for the future.

The clutch was the best we could get from the shop in town. Their reputation was outstanding with a lot of local top racers having great things to say about the quality of the product. It was just one of those things that made it happen when it did.

My brother still had the idea that when his hands were back to functioning, we would start another build. This was the “put a smile on your face” time. Out of these conversations came a million thoughts and direction of our next build or builds.

The 671 motor, being the last thing sitting in the backyard garage after January 1961, gave us ideas that would have made a great next step in our history. The 1962 Corvette was 3rd in our ideas and thoughts. Only if…

  22. I'm working on something for the show but it's ended up taking a bit longer than I planned. So during my coffee break here at work today I did a quick sketch and ink.
