I went with New Vintage in my 39. Haven't run it yet but the product seems great, fit like it should (direct fit to my 39 dash), and all the needed essentials and paperwork is thorough. The speedometer uses a pulse sensor on the car's torque tube and calibration seems easy as pie with a simple 1 mile drive and push of a button. I like the looks too.

  5. G'day, With the amount of drag racing we've done and the extremely good luck we have had with Auto Meter Pro Comp gauges that is what I will use in the Corvettes. Plus I have a road box full of new Auto Meter liquid filled pro comps that I have pack ratted away. I believe there are four full sets including blower boost gauges.

When cleaning out the parts that came with the 1959 I found a box with the complete original cluster that was in better than fair shape. The original odometer has less than 3 miles on it. The car has been a drag car all of it's life with after market gauges so they were never used. Tempting, but I do like my Auto Meter stuff.

I do have way too much stuff boxed up and stored so this summer I am planning on going through the parts supply and a lot of stuff is going away. Too hard to sell up here so it will probably be dumpster time for a lot of vintage stuff.

  6. D32E3498-EDBC-4AEC-98CA-F27A2BB5B24D.jpeg I guess it depends on what kind of car you got. If I a got a early hotrod then I’d say Stewart Warner.

Agreed. There are other period manufacturers, like U.S. Gauge & MMG&E, but Stewart Warner seems to have been more focused on cars than industry. I'm running early 1950's S/W Wings gauges & an early 1960's Son "Football" tach. They work great & are quite accurate.

Brandon those temp and OP gauges are from an Autocar truck. Maybe Cord too. Possibly used in other off-brand applications as well.

I use 19 or 20 for sheet metal, usually 11 for chassis.

Speed Hut for me. Made in the USA to order, come with all the senders & wire. Programmable speedo, or GPS speedo. Several style choices, then several options in each style. Gene

I have vintage Stewart warner and a vintage 1953 sun tach. 20210129_212846.jpg

I do have a factory gizmo somewhere that goes in line of the speedometer cable that changes the speed. It came off an old truck with a 2 speed rear... so you may be able to use something like that if you were only going to change between 2 gears with your quickchange.

It may have been mentioned already, speedhut makes a gps drive box that will work with any vintage speedometer. Hides away out of sight too. It's called a "speedbox." Pricey but a good solution it seems

I used the Autometer Antique Beige gauges in my Plymouth. When I found out my transmission didn't have a speedo drive, I was lucky to be able to use their GPS module. Works great and looks great, IMO.

So what is everyone doing about the 1940 Ford dashes? I want all of my gauges to be as accurate as possible, but still have the look.

  22. I seem to remember that there is a 70's Dodge Dart? cluster that fits the 40 standard gauge bezel. It's not as cheesy as it sounds, it looks pretty good and gives you more accurate gauges. Here's a pic and the thread I found it in. Paging @mj40's https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/40-ford-dash-in.318841/

I'm using blood pressure and pulse ox. My car is using what it came with.

I have white faced Moon gauges in my 57 Ford, as well as a few in my 61 Olds. The older ones, from approximately 2004, were made by Autometer and are really nice quality, and have performed very well in the years I've had them. The ones I bought a couple years ago for my 61 were made by Dolphin, and I have to say I am somewhat disappointed in them. Some of them were lit differently than others and looked weird in the dash. Also, the oil pressure gauge and water temp gauges are "not to scale", meaning the midway point between 2 numbers is not necessarily the midway point in actual reading. I think that's bullshit. If I wanted to guess as to what the readings are I would have just left the idiot lights in the dash.

I put a cheapo set of Speedway mechanical gauges in my 56 Olds last year and they've been OK. The water temp gauge was a little sticky for a while, and would be stuck bottomed out even when it was obvious the engine was up to temperature, but it seems to have broken itself in.

I have Auto Meter in my 74 Roadrunner, with GPS. I'm going to be using NVU in my 30 Tudor, also going to use GPS, it makes it simple
