Thanks for the reminder to check out the website for Great Ashfield and the 385th were my Dad spent 3 years. A few weeks ago a 99 year old navigator with 26 missions went up in a B-17 again . This is the weekend we remember all guys that didn't make it home. God Bless them all.

The USA lost about 70,000 aircraft in WW due to accidents and combat. 6000 B 17's were lost in Europe. Sobering thoughts when you consider how many airmen were killed....The few surviving aircraft remind us of their sacrifice.

Just found this post-second world war ad. The price is probably one of the reasons people like Arfons were using them to attempt to go fast.

Not that that it helps now but, there used to be at least 1500 of them not 10 miles from you just sitting around crated up. :(

Story of my life. Not sure what I would do with one, but I just need it.

7th airman from left is Augie O ; He was a machine-gun operator on The WHEEL and DEAL B-17 during WW II
Missing propeller on the inboard Wright radial engine ( Starboard side) gave the crew a bit of time for some "R and R".
    * Before retiring from the USAF he taught many Airmen at Chanute AFB ( Rantoul, IL ) on the S.A.G.E.-worthy IM 99-B BOMARC missile.

If you really wanted one, it would be worth a phone call to either one of the FBOs.
