Projects Introducing the Father's Day Flyer Model T modified build

  1. Fail!
3 hours at the DMV and I'm no closer :(
Colorado just implemented a new computer system, and the checklist has changed. An hour of that was calls to Denver so the local group can understand the changes. Oh well, they behaved nicely, I pulled the plug when I got hungry. This step can wait a few more months till they get another guinea pig to learn on LOL

I just need one more form filled out and a minimum of 2 pictures for them. Oh how the .gov loves paperwork.

  2. Victory is MINE!
Just finished up at the DMV and all the paperwork is in order and accepted.
Next step is the state will send me a VIN number plate and some more paperwork. I may or may not have to get a bond. Only time will tell.

  3. Excellent! Back to building!

This is just my worthless opinion but that later drivetrain lends itself to more of a 60's style build.

Edit- I had a bunch of other stuff written but I can't seem to get the right "tone" and not sound like a know-it-all so carry on! I love hot rod T roadsters!

  4. Got a call from the CO State patrol. Quick trip to them today and it's got a state issued VIN#.
Besides being cold, quick and painless.
They had 2 spots they want to put the tag on. Driver's door jamb or cowel, I choose the latter because the door might run on their special rivets. IMG_20190208_114849_825.jpeg IMG_20190208_114522260_HDR.jpeg

Sat in the cockpit and made vroom vroom noises while enjoying an adult beverage and thinking of dad IMG_20190616_201056_722.jpeg

Working slowly on my '27 tub...As I was never clear on the door issue, and bought a T roadster from the same guy, turns out the tub is a '26...the roadster a '27.
Hard to put a real I.D. on anything T, as Henry used whatever bins of parts for whatever. (previous year sheet metal, subtle differences...)
On F100s, the same front axle was used from '53-'56. The '57-'60 used an axle (#TAAA) that had a factory drop 7/8" deeper than the '53-'56. Easy 1" drop.
Except that in '57, Henry (Henry II) deemed that all the leftover axles from '56 be exhausted, so some of the 'Fridges' have the 'taller' axles...
We found out the hard way... LOL
Lots of 'carry-overs' on old Fords.

  10. Dangnabbit! It's been too long not working on the T!

A friend of a friend is starting to clear out his stash. He had this deuce frame laying out back that I think will do nicely IMG_20210227_140215324.jpg

Since the cold spell passed, we used my son's Apache. Also nabbed a pair of A rails for good measure.

Hope you guys are doing well.

  11. Before I forget, when pinching a 32 frame down for a 27 T
It's 1.5" a the cowel and 2.5" at the back.

I cut the box tube crossmember out of the middle and used a ratchet strap to pull the back of the frame together.

Looks like it matches well to the door then the tub starts to hang over the frame in the back. But my tub has crummy patch panels, so I think I'll make it flow better when I do the body repairs IMG_20210227_151551507.jpeg 1614464392033.jpeg 1614464425916.jpeg

  13. Hard at work on the front.

Best information I can find shows the springs are 300#/in.
Given the poly has quite a bit of gravity in it, I think a top mounted shackle mount will work nicely IMG_20210423_184707056.jpeg IMG_20210423_184715967.jpeg IMG_20210424_154110187.jpeg

  16. Got the frame boxed up around the springs. Working on a crossmember under the front of the motor and planning out motor mounts IMG_20211126_154236642.jpg IMG_20211126_154340301.jpg IMG_20211126_154309265.jpg IMG_20211126_154324041.jpg IMG_20211126_154236642.jpg

Just wonder why this engine isn't seen more often?

  18. Right? I've never seen one in the wild, except the two I have.

    Nice progress this weekend.
Got the shackle hangers on the front axle.
Planned out some motor mounts. Their old Jeep shackle hangers and bushings. Just have to box those in and the crossmember, then add some gussets around the Vega box.

Huh getting security errors, no pic for now

  19. Looks like my calculations are correct.
With my #200 on the front spreader bar, it drops 1/2". And I have a little bolt left for fine adjustment.

I still miss dad, I really need supervision :)

Got a panhard bar made and mounted up. I used a tie rod kit. A fellow club member had the tapered reamer.

Also started to play around with pedal placement. This is a F1 set I'm starting with.

I’m doing a build with my dad at the moment, a 26 roadster. This last December he was diagnosed with leukemia so I’m on a mission to get this sucker built. I feel for ya man.

  22. Don't worry about finishing it, just enjoy the time together, oh and say hi for me ;)

  23. Hope you guys are having a great weekend
Working on some ergonomics  lol apparently non-existent in a T bucket

A little cramped, but not unexpected. Thinking about recessing the floor a bit for more leg room.

Is this about what you guys deal with?

  24. Yup. Not much room for a side shift four speed. I gave up and put a 904 auto behind my red ram powered T. I thought about running a ‘37 Lasalle trans due to the shifter location on those.

  26. I removed the bump from the bottom of the rear panel and plopped a seat my neighbor gave me in there.
It's a back seat from a f250, he builds fire trucks.

I can lower the seat 2" from here. The back of the seat is 1 1/2" above the rear panel. Feels much better than sitting on 4x4s lol

  29. We also picked up a 9" axle from a 63 F150.

Cleaning it up and found this in the tube ends :(

Looks like the bearing land and the seal pocket are ok. Just have to remove the burr to get a new seal in.

And of course the HAMB has 9" details. Here is another open carrier with no windows. Just have to split it to get it cleaned up.
    IMG_20220520_191940080.jpg
These gears look good, 3.73s so I'll seal and reinstall untill I decide what ratio I want.
