Good morning HAMBers. I am looking dor any history anyone may be able to provide on there Brainerd,Mn car clubs. The only thing that I have heard so far was drom my uncle who said the Street Angels was "The club to be in" Not sure if the Rod Benders were in Brainerd Only a guess as they were collected only about 10 miles apart. Would guess 3 clubs from a town of about 7000 people would be quite a few back then.
Both my wife and I grew up in the Brainerd Lakes area, I have heard of the Street Senators, but don't know any other details, the other club I am not aware of. That said, there has been a long running Rod Benders Hot Rod Club out of Grand Forks, ND. and the plaque style matches what I have seen from those guys. They last put a rod run on in 2004, but the club dates back to the late 60's, I believe.
The Rod Benders plaque could be ordered from magazine ads in the 50's. This page on my website tells a little about those ads and has a photo of that plaque ... https://carclubplaques.pairsite.com/Cities/Stock.htm
unfortunately i dont know the history of the clubs, but i do own a Road Gents Brainerd plaque. i do know a guy i can ask. JEFF
I did have someone respond to me about the Road Gents and this is what he wrote ... My dad, E.R. "Dick" Scruggs, belonged to this club in the 30’s and 40’s. He moved from Kansas City to Brainerd, MN in the early 30's. He ran St. Cloud Tent & Awning Co in Brainerd and farmed on weekends.
