Projects I’d like to welcome “Shop around” to the family- 1951 Mercury

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bigbopper51, Mar 9, 2022.

  1. I’ve always dreamed of having an original 1951 mercury. Today I brought her home ! She was a barn find and she hasn’t ran in 37 years. I turned the crank over by hand before putting the battery in. She turns very slow so I have my work cut out for me. I have to rebuild a carburetor I believe and it’s going to need some electrical. When I hooked the battery up, only the tail lights worked and the radio and horn. I took the driver headlight out and replaced it with a new one and both of the headlights started working but then the passenger headlight went out. After tampering with the dimmer switch. So if anybody has any recommendations on What to look for I would greatly appreciate it

That looks like a great car. I can’t wait to see what you do with it!

I can't recall that I have ever seen a '51 Mercury with a raised roof like that. I wonder how hard it was to raise it up and make it look factory! :D
    Beautiful car, congrats!

Wow, I wish mine was that clean and complete! I like that green color, too. This would be a perfect car for mostly preservation-type efforts.

Check grounding. May have to run a short wire to provide a good ground.

Your title "Shop Around" made me smile:).

When my parents first met my, now wife Bonnie, my Mom pulled her aside and told her to "shop around...you can do better" :(
