A warm day in Winter. We were iced in last week. B.S. session with some longtime friends today. 6420E2F9-0569-40CF-841B-2EC37ECCBC7D.jpeg 8495E625-A5A5-4667-8427-05D3EE09386D.jpeg 5D008E07-5AA7-4A8F-BBFC-A0039A9CDD3C.jpeg

    And the beat goes on…..update

  5. Started the excavation project to free my 62 SS from the dirt that it was becoming a part of. Finally talked the owner out of it after knowing he had it for 30 years. Oh, and he had it 25 years before I knew he had it. Should get it loaded and by the car wash tomorrow before bringing it home.

IMG_6092.JPG Went to fire up my 62 impala today. Machine shop engine. 261 engine. Started fine then heard a noise in the engine sounded like a deep knocking noise so shut it off. Crankshaft damper was loose. Took it off with my hands. Pulled the radiator and found the mess. Ordered a small block chevy bolt and washer so will be drilling the crank and tapping it to secure it. Tomorrow hopefully will fire it up again.

My initial concern of the driveshaft being to short was resolved with the new yoke. The old yoke had 50% spline engagement and the new yoke which is a lot bigger has the full 3 inches of the spline on the output shaft engaged. After cutting the yoke twice it was the right length.
U joint IMG_0232.JPG IMG_0226.JPG IMG_0001.JPG IMG_0233.JPG s can be time consuming to get the clearances right so they have no pre load. With some different thickness retaining clips I got that sorted out and all is well. The photos show how much better driveshaft engagement is just by changing yokes.

  8. Your 62 is part of what motivated me to check on the one I just got. After checking it out a while back and realizing how bad of condition it was in, I walked away for the price he finally gave me. However, this week, he was in need of some cash, so cut the price to less than 1/3 of where he was. That made it worth the money...I hope. Really like your 62 which is obviously a WAY nicer car that I just picked up.

I drove the 55 to work today and almost passed out when I saw E10 is 1.92 Euros a liter. Glad I filled up all cars before winter. And I put the crank back in the 261, all bearings came in at .002“ . The rusty bores cleaned up better than I thought, but of course the bore taper is still noticable.
I‘m putting it back together with new rings and just pretend the bores were good enough , hahaha

I finally got all of the body parts to my Buick powered Morris Minor woody in high build primer, using my spacious, well lighted paint booth and high tech fixtures.
Still discussing what color to paint it with the wife and daughters. They want a fun, frivolous, surf n sun color - lemon yellow. I lean towards a more serious dark metallic green, different at the shows and a nod to its British heritage.
With the primer done, it’s off tomorrow for the March Meet in Bakersfield and a week in LA working on the house and my Stude pickup.

I need to do that in my 47 coupe. Took it to church a week ago and it was warm enough that the AC would've been nice; but enough Freon has leaked out over the winter that it's not working right now.

  14. Picked up the 62 and gave it a quick bath. It is rough, but a small block 4-speed car. I considered leaving the dirt and leaves on...not really. :D

Mr. Hemi Hunter got new shoes, a bath, and a jug full of 110. Hooking the new shift light up in the am, then heading to the nostalgia race at Little River this weekend. F96B7850-BB39-444C-B316-048B1E0AE6D4.jpeg

New posi unit. I was on a full spool and I'm trying to shy away from that scene.

  22. Got a few more parts cleaned up and installed back on this 326 last night and hoping to stab it back in the car today. I may have gone a little overboard when my only goal was replacing the rear main seal.

  24. @vtwhead it is the original Pontiac blue for the car I am working on. Slightly off topic for the HAMB by a couple years.

Guthrie That 62 is complete. That would be a great one to do. Interior all there? Got the balancer deal done on mine, drilled and tapped the crank for a sbc bolt. Had to cut 1/4 inch off the end of the bolt but worked perfect. Now on to the windshield and back glass install, pop the seats in and go for a spin. Lippy
