    Hi, I'm Ron.

Have a '55 Thunderbird I've had for longer than any car I've ever owned!

Giving it some love and mating a C4 trans that I got with another car to the original Y-block motor.

I' m taking the trans to a dude that specializes in automatics, but I took the pan off to send him some photos. Interesting aftermarket pan with 'cooling' tubes that I want to use, and it's a deeper pan. IMG_3718.jpg

Issue is - it was stored dry and got some rust in the pan itself (rest of trans will clean up).

Thinking of soaking it with Simple Green or some other deruster, then want to coat with something that will be resistant to ATF.

    Any suggestions?

  2. Welcome to the HAMB from Illinois.

I'd clean it up as you suggest. May need some light hand sanding to get to good steel, then use it. ATF should prevent future rust.
