Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by Taboo56Chevy, May 22, 2018.

  1. Good to know! I didnt know that, I just saw the art and had to scoop it up asap before someone else got it, lol.

  2. Some neat new Taboo history popped up on one of the facebook custom pages I’m on. Found the car made it’s way up to Seattle for this Rod and Custom show in 1960 that I didnt know about. Love finding new tid bits of the cars northwest history.

  4. Came across some new pictures of Taboo from the Spokane Speed and Custom show last year. The black and white photo almost makes you think it an old photo, if that new car was not in the background, lol

  5. Always great to see pic's of one the best Kustoms ever built

  6. Today was a fantastic day! A member of the original owners family got ahold of me about coming across lot of pictures of Taboo and asking if I wanted them. I couldnt say yes fast enough! Luckily she lived not to far from me, so stopped on my way home from work and collected a gold mine of early photos and stuff from the early days of Taboo. Lots of photos, but programs and exhibitor passes for Roadster Shows in Portland, Seattle, Yakima and the Dalles all from 1959-1962. Also in the pile was some 8x10's prints of the photoshoot for the Rod & Custom Cover and feature. Including a couple photos that never made the issue.

So here is some of the first scans of the loose stuff. Others are still in an old scrapbook that is falling apart than I need to delicately take apart.

These first ones are from 1959 when the car still had a stock single headlight and the tube grille. This was the Exotics car club of Beaverton. The 58 Chevy was Taboo's sister car owned by Walt Nichols.

These are some new photos of the first wreck the car suffered in 1959 right after getting the Chrysler headlights grafted in.

Then these are from one show, not sure exactly on the show, I think its the 1960 Portland Roadster Show.

Then these are the 8x10's of the Rod & Custom Photoshoot.

Its a cool picture of both cars sitting there. Never heard of Golfland.
I grew up in Hollywood, other side of the tracks. 1st hot rod I ever saw was my next door neighbor who had a nomad with the engine behind the seats. Never saw it run. I used to jump and down on it. Good times.

  16. D. Your site lucky to gather those pics. Black and white sure doesn't do her justice. But back in the day we dropped over these pics. As a matter of fact I still do.
    Thanks for posting them.

  17. Scanned more of the gold tonight. These are all the programs that were in the pile of stuff, along with exhibitor passes. Also in the pile was an application to the 1959 Seattle Rod and Custom show.

  19. Reorganizing the photos, found I have taken similar photos of the car without thinking about it, so neat to see a then/now of between 1959 and today.

  21. Very nice addition to your collection. Some time ago, I did a 1968 Honda cl160. A very knowledgable friend commented about how I knew the complete history of the bike as something very special. I'm thinking that you're there. :)

  22. Went into photoshop and messed with the dark polaroid photos to see if I could get a little more out of them. Was able to make a good improvement on them so you can actually see the car.

  23. Just went through this thread and found a couple more "missing pieces of the puzzle", trying to recall when I first saw Taboo (other than the '62 Roadster
Show), and Walt Nichols '58 Impala; would have been '58 or '59 when Walt worked at the Cedar Hills Safeway.
We lived in the apts. behind the shopping center and would drool over the
cars parked in the lot, on occasion, on our way over to the drugstore fountain for a cherry coke served to us by the luscious, stacked blonde, Sherry, who we all had a crush on.......
Is Walt still with us today?

  24. Sadly Walt passed away awhile ago, I think somewhere around 10-15 years ago. His last wife is still around. Actually just bought and sold a OT Mustang that her and Walt bought new.

There is also no one left of the Luchs's that built Taboo originally at this point as well.

  25. Not too far out, but in a couple weeks will be the first ever Clark County Roadster Show in Vancouver, Washington. Taboo will be there. I know a few other HAMBers will be there is well. If your in the area stop on by and hope to run into you!

  27. yep based on what we were told for move it.

  28. Well a last minute call had us loading up Taboo early and dragged it down to Salem, Oregon for this years Salem Roadster Show. Also took my C10 down and put them together in the show.

    What a great picture!

So much history has been lost, so it's great that these pictures and associated memorabilia got saved and passed on to you.
