I had the opportunity yesterday to pick through an estate garage. I picked up a 37 Flathead and some few odds and ends. In the mix are two red painted sheet metal panels that I’m trying to identify. Anybody know what they are? The red thingies kinda look like fender or running board blenders. 8BA water outlets. If it weren't for the exhaust parts I would tend to think the engine was for marine application, based on the water inlet block-offs and the clutch release shaft being removed. A look in the tranny may give a clue (in&out mod ????).

The engine is a 1937 (or early 38) twenty one stud block. It’s been fitted with the ‘35-36 type Ford lower hose outlet/front motor support, and the 37 block off plates. This way the engine block could be used in a 1935-36 Ford with the 35/36 cylinder heads (with the water pumps mounted in the front of the heads).

  8. Matt, the dropped tie rod ends are Willys.

The red sheet metal pieces could be the ends of a front or rear valance that goes between the body and bumper. No idea of what car or truck though.

I know what everything else is. I’m solely asking about the red panels.

This is what I thought also. I searched some images but never found a perfect match. Maybe someone will recognize them.

I'd agree with them being some sort of radiator aprons or filler panels but they may not be Ford or anything close.

I whacked mine with a 4 lb. hammer once. Even when it had started to heal good and the nail started to come loose, it was still so tender that I glued the nail down with Super Glue to protect it.
