It`s been awhile since I have posted on this thread. But this might make up for it. This was in a car calendar. So is this the signature top for a Model A that Amos Carson started doing that evolved in the the famous Carson top. Thoughts and opinions. IMG_20221010_0001.jpg IMG_20221010_0002.jpg

Looks like the last time I added a bit to this thread was X-Mas day last year. Maybe the same for this year as well. From the March issue of 1950 Hot Rod. Scan_20221225.png

This thing is COOL. Inspired by the So Cal Plating Special. I have seen it a few times since it had been built. Featured in June 95 in American Rodder. There are some recent pic`s from the 2022 L A Roadsters show that he added the So Cal Plating lettering to the trunk area. I've had some adventures is custom tops over the years. I guess these fall into the "other tops too" category.

Back in the '80s I picked up this '51 to build a custom. Cut the roof off, built a wood buck and made a fiberglass roof. Sold the car and new owner had it upholstered.

Got this '41 Plymouth in a trade...a 2 door sedan with the roof cut off. Again, built a wood buck and made a fiberglass roof. 0.34.jpg 0.35.jpg

Thanks. Stan for nice compliments on my 37 Ford. Inspired by the Socal plating truck. The top looks like a Carson but is actually a fixed top. 20221221_185305.jpg DSCN0301.JPG

Thanks for the reply and added pic`s. Was hopping you`d chime in. I`m sure, many people have never seen your 37. When done right, the fixed tops look like they can be removed.

Stan. I am not sure if the Socal deliver y truck top was removeable. I have never seen a picture of the truck without the top.

I agree. This thread is about the Carson tops and other kinds as well. I think most of the Carson style tops were never removed as well. Carson is a generic term that has been overused and misunderstood for years. Along with many other words in the dictionary. Here is the Rick Schnell`s Merc built in about 1980. Another fixed roof car that everybody calls a Carson top. I have always liked this car since I first saw it in 1982. It is still around in the same configuration as back then. 30. I believe that was Joe Moreno's Buick and I also believe it tragically burned to the ground.
