For those who think the term "STREET ROD" was coined in the 70's or later and is certainly not "TRADITIONAL". An acquaintance found this book this week-end and the copyright is 1953. For those of you not acquainted with the author he wrote a number of hot rod/street rod books in the 50's
He had already titled a book Hot Rod, published in 1950. I suspect he was building on that, not trying to start a trend
jetnowl, I know I read his books back in the 50's as a kid. Sam, every once in a while the pot needs stirring
I don’t think it really matters what a person refers to his/her car. On the HAMB it should be well known by now, wa hay a traditional hot rod is, as it pertains to the HAMB. I’ve mentioned this before, but I was admiring a late 20’s / early 30’s Chevy pickup when I came oout of a convenience store, when the young fella came out I said “nice hotrod”. He replied “it’s a rat rod “ Okay, we parted ways. It really looked well built.
Who the hell cares what “terms” are used. Spend the time building or driving something instead of worrying about what someone called it.
I'm 100% in agreement. Posted it for those who get all bent out of shape about what to call a "modified" car/truck. As I said in #6 every once in a while the pot needs stirring looks like it's being done
Yep, I read that book many times around 1960....I could just see myself as Bud Crane, hauling down the road. Acquired my first hot rod in 1961. I still have my copy and used to read it every night to my 10yr old granddaughter who lived with us. We would read 3-4 pages before she fell asleep. She, too, loves hot rods and is now 26. Your mind and imagination are far better than any computer....
Reprints have also been available thru the years. Last one was 2012/2013 and is available on Amazon. Read his series on cars when I was a kid and loved em.
I’ve done this more then once , but not while driving …… does road he……. Naw I’m not sayin a dang thing more
I never 'returned' all the Felson and Gault titles from my school library. The late fees would probably buy 'em a new gym now...
