Reminds me of the acetylene torch treatment...is this technique of achieving a smooth true surface a newer phenomenon or is it something that's been done for ions?

Stogy, if I was a betting man I'd say that's graphite guide coat smeared over the primer to aid in blocking.

  7. NOTE: Ross Myers (through Roy Brizio) has requested that I (temporarily) remove the photos of the Dick Williams '27 Roadster while it is being painted ... and (of course) I have honored his request.

UPDATE: Now that the (restored) Dick Williams '53 AMBR winner has debuted at the 2022 GNRS, I've "restored" the images in my previous 13 posts (i.e., the photos of it while it was being painted at @hollenbeck32's Vintage Color Studio).

That car is a perfect example of how the coolest looking cars can be the worst to drive!

That's one of those colors that has many faces...it looks white to me but I also see a very light blue which no doubt darkens depending on light...is this a modern paint thing or are multi ranged tints way older than one would imagine?...

It looks ready for 1953...great job Team Brizio...and thanks to Hemi for sharing the Journey...;)

I guess the former drivers may have been shorter as they seem to sit deeper in the seat...

  14. It's not a "modern paint thing" ... it's a "photographic thing".

This light powder blue gray paint color photographs quite differently depending on the source of the "available light" (i.e., bright sunlight, overcast muted sunlight, fluorescent shop light, incandescent light, LED light, etc., etc.) ... and at what angle that light source is "hitting" the roadster's body panels.

Don't believe me? ... Go back and view the six (6) circa 1953 black & white photos of the car in Post #1 (i.e., the OP of this thread).

I see what your saying, paints do that dance even to the naked eye but I guess the light source and other elements dictate the same as well thinking what your saying...I hear it so many times in discussion of paints and light is probably the biggest part of that equation...Thanks for a new direction in thinking about paint...

Nice surprise, all this time I've been expecting to see the finished car in red. Have fun at the GNRS, post photos if you take any. Bob

  21. No ... it's just being displayed near the "9-foot trophy" & the 2022 contenders because is was restored to its circa 1953 AMBR winning form:

I am so glad to see the car restored to its original appearance. With all due respect to its interim owners, it was never improved by the color change and huge tires. Now it looks like it ought to, one of the absolute best of all the AMBR winners.

This has probably been addressed before but was Dick Williams the same Poliform guy?

  25. Nope ... different Dick Williams ... and yes, it's been addressed before ... but not in this thread (i.e., @50Fraud posted THIS in @Ryan's 2014 thread about the '53 AMBR).
