Been "side-tracked" and haven't posted on the FAS for a while...
My Mom passed away last month (at 91). She was a great mom and had a great life...healthy to the end:).

My Dad had bought my Mom a new '66 Bronco, but she preferred to drive her old pink & black '55 Ford convert. She and "Crink" the dog would go to town once a week (Fridays) for groceries and hair styling.

    upload_2022-1-28_4-11-14.png 1959 So Cal version

    Hello,

We have always like 1940 Fords, coupes, sedans, wagons and of course in 1960, a nice Flathead powered Sedan Delivery.
    upload_2022-1-28_4-14-28.png
But, the sight of this old hot rod 1940 Ford Coupe running down the Riverside Raceway Dragstrip in 1959 may have started the whole ball rolling to 1960. By 1959, my brother and I had already gone through his 51 Oldsmobile two door sedan with its mild custom modifications. Then it was a brief moment with a Model A coupe for a possible build into an SBC powered daily driver and racer at Lion’s Dragstrip Gas Coupe and Sedan classes.
    upload_2022-1-28_4-15-28.png
Those two projects, bit the dust by a pristine 1958 Chevy Impala that was an automatic, dual purpose, hot rod sedan. So, by 1959, we had our trophies, and ideas for something on the next level of drag racing. The 1940 Ford multi-color coupe gave me some ideas, but my brother already had his brain working to get a lighter weight Willys Coupe for our next build.
When he saw the 40 Ford coupe, he was intrigued, but knew he could get a lighter weight Willys Coupe instead.
40 Willys Coupe weight: 2115 pounds
40 Ford Coupe weight: 2970 POUNDS

An advantage weight savings of 855 lbs. For my brother, that was too much to overcome in selecting the 1940 Ford Coupe. So, the definite Willys Coupe advantage was it for our first build. Plus, he already had his eyes set on a neighborhood Willys Coupe, sitting under a canvas tarp, in a backyard near our Westside of Long Beach house.
    upload_2022-1-28_4-18-33.png vs upload_2022-1-28_4-19-58.png no contest...slim and trim...

But, since I took these early films and now, they are in digital form, one cannot help in looking at how someone would put their style and effort into such a great 1940 Ford design despite the 855 pound difference. YRMV
