Technical What did you do with your car today? * NEW*

  1. Kinda sad; it was in a lot better shape 47 years ago when I first looked at it. Least he gave me the engine out of an old school bus/camper some hunters left up there long ago. Kinda surprised when I looked under the hood one day.

I finished the side panels for the bed and decided to leave the fuel fill recessed so that was a little project in itself. The panels really stiffened up the bed also. I free handed the wheel openings so they need a little contouring to match the tire. ( wheels and tires are temporary ) IMG_0071 (1).JPG IMG_0062 (1).JPG IMG_0065 (1).JPG IMG_0069 (1).JPG

[] 20220119_123036.jpg 20220119_134903.jpg Working on mounting the steering box on my '48 F1 Panel. Still have to do some whittling on the boxing plate previously installed for front of box clearance, then see if the header clears, then finish up the motor mount.

Well, I corrected my bump steer problem, slight as it was. Removed the pitman arm and applied the Victor wrench. Much better! No pics though.

  7. That's awesome Lynn! I'm jealous! Of your car and good looks :D:p how do you go about having something like that certified? Or do you have to? I want one

Thanks for the compliment! As far as certifying it, I don't really have plans to do that, or feel that I'll need to. I just plan to bracket race it at local "outlaw" 1/8 Mi. tracks. Last year, at one of the tracks, I asked at the pit gate if I could speak with their tech person and was told they didn't have one. Well, that seemed to settle that.

That said, I can't see any reason it wouldn't certify though, although I don't have any plans for it to be fast enough to even require certification. I built it by plans (with very minor changes, mostly to the shape of the rear) from S&W Race Cars, following their tube layout, so I think I'm good there. I was having problems finding all of the tubing sizes needed to build from 4130 chrome moly, so per rules I found I used .120 wall DOM tubing which is an option (minimum .118" required).

The plan is for a pretty mild SBC with full-length Powerglide and it has a Mopar 8 3/4" rearend that I narrowed. According to a calculator someone directed me to, it should run about 7.00 seconds and 100-ish MPH in the 1/8th mile. Fast enough to have some fun. Challenge will be getting consistent. Even if it's a complete disappointment at the track it should make for some neat "garage art".

    Thanks again!

  9. I always wondered about it. Didn't know if i could build something and take it to the local track, and as long as it passed their inspection I'd be good to go. If that would be the case, I'd by me an old FED frame :D

First time out this year. 40 mile run to town without a hitch. Sure beats driving the 4x4.

Slow progress, a PITA to make all the templates to maximise the sheets that come in box. 3 x boxes of Dynamat Extreme so far [Each box contains 9 x sheets {18'x 32', 457mm x 812mm} and I still need to line both front doors, transmission cover and both lower rear sail panels. It's a big car so I ensured that I measured well for minimal wastage; measure twice, cut once! That bar under the dash supports the under dash brake assembly, emergency brake and AC unit. It can be removed for serviceability, in its entirety, by removing three (3) bolts on each side side along with (4) firewall mounting bolts.
Lots of swage lines, dips, rises, pressings, reverse curves to address. There is light at the end of the tunnel!

Definitely, my next {Final} order of Dynamat will have enough sheets to finish what I started with some left over. More templates to cut!

Blowby, You take your pooch with you in the Vette? Love your car and the dog!

  17. Installed the air vent box in the dash followed by the speaker grille and trim. Finished the ABS hose cover for under the dash. Leaded the chopped windshield garnishes and started to file them; but ran out of time.

  23. Installed some bracing to the body, mounts are all undone or out, now starting to cut the old floor out in pieces. Trying to save the tunnel for someone's rod project. floor braced.jpg Drivers side.jpg

Moved my 27 to the neighbor's barn so I could have room to work on my OT pickup. Pulling all the computer crap out of the pickup. Replacing the automatic with a 5 speed and the EFI with a carburetor. When I'm done, it will have the basics just like the T and I can work on it!! Yeaaaa. :)
