My mother stepped in and offered to pay me what the car owes me so I don't have to sell it.

It's still advertised for sale, but things may yet change.

Phil, hope things are starting to come back together for you. Hopefully you can get your house back into shape soon and begin to move forward again. Good to see you posting the occasional update. Take care!

There's not much to say right now, I'm just sitting here having a sulk that I'm just sat in my hotel room watching all the antique cars drive by on the interstate.

Well, a no-news news update. If that makes sense.

I'll start with the bad news because that's the least relevant. I did sell a car. I'm gonna miss my bright orange OT Dodge.

Good news is that the Pontiac stays.
Enough people have said I need to keep it; selling the OT daily has freed just enough money to keep things afloat.

I want to bring it here. Weather is nice today, I might just...

Bringing the car up here has been vetoed.

I did start it up, shuffle it forwards and backwards on the driveway and ran it for a little while at high idle to get the oil round and put some charge back in the battery.

Well, if I can get situated again there's more to come.
Got myself a bucketful of bodywork to do. I hate bodywork!

Going to go to the house tomorrow, shall see if the car's still parked outside or if someone's walked off with it.

It's still there. Started up second go so went picked up lunch in it at the milkshake stand.

Weather's cooler, the gearbox behaved itself beautifully. I need to determine why it gets sticky when it's hot still.

It's not doing well sitting outside either. I need to buff then wax the chrome again. The paint has gone all flat too.

What about renting a storage unit.... maybe near where you are staying to keep it in for right now.

There really isn't anything nearby, most structures like that took some form of damage, and many people have rented what's left to put the contents of their houses in while they rebuild.

So, it'll have to survive. Ultimately I'll be taking care of the parts where the paint has been taken off, but this is likely to become a minor repair/weld session anyway.

The car is still there. Hooked the battery up but it didn't want to start until it got a jump off the daily. It's not liking sitting up, unfortunately. But given a good battery (which it needs), it would have been fine.

Slow, but progress is being made. The same as with anything being fixed:- The devil's in the details.

Went to the house today. Didn't have a while lot of time because I had to be elsewhere this afternoon, but I grabbed the keys to the car and went check on it.

Hooked up the battery, went to pop the hood and heard the clock had started ticking away by itself (usually needs a tap to get it going when it's been sat a while).

Engine had a good volume of oil, there was still coolant in the radiator so I primed the fuel pump and hit the starter.

It turned over very unevenly about 5 times then died. I've been wringing as much life out of that poor battery as possible, I think it's time for a new one. It's certainly time to start driving it again, the valves aren't sealing well having sat.

All the chrome is rusty again. There's some funky black mold looking stuff all around the gas cap door (modern fuel seems to do this?!) but at least it doesn't smell funky inside.

I'm hoping to start on something of a revival once I get situated...
