I am normally pretty good at these but I'm stumped. I found a huge GMC in a junkyard I can buy. It's not really what I'd call your typical cab over and it not a small truck. I'm guessing 54 55 due to the windshield. I can get titles through my state on stuff like this using the VIN/serial number on said vehicle but I can't decode this VIN to figure out the year. Everything I find is for a smaller truck. The VIN has been checked and cleaned off and this is for sure the #. W624 42 Z11xx Can anyone decode this one.
Im pretty sure the Z indicates the year 1954. http://www.oldgmctrucks.com/page0194.html but you have to do some inferring....some of the pages show year breakdowns with different letters there, and the ones with Z seem to be 1954. The truck model is W624
Is there and emblem on the hood side? That will indicate what exact model. On the smallest trucks, the presence or absence of an open driveshaft would indicate the year. On a bigger truck, not so much. Yes, Z=1954.
Bet that hood will be hard to find. That was probably an over the road freight truck. Could have had a Cummins diesel, a Detroit Diesel, or even a GMC gas burner. Would make a cool ramp truck.
