Hot Rods What are you working on this long weekend?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Jan 15, 2022.

  1. Fortunately during last night and today's ice storm and the accompanying 50 mph plus winds we didn't have any trees fall, there is a lot of limb's to clean up when the weather clears up.

I also have a huge brush pile from the storm last year and in the pile there has to be at least 5 Christmas trees, I fear we will burn the neighborhood down, with all the ice I should make that my project tomorrow. HRP

The speedometer on my '53 Customline has started sticking and making an annoying noise and the needle bounces pretty bad. So yesterday I pulled the cable, cleaned it, and sprayed a liberal amount of the dry graphite spray down either end. I put it back in and took it for a test drive. It worked much better with only a slight needle bounce and no noise... for about 2 miles. Then a popping noise and the needle dropped to zero and stayed there.

Not sure how me cleaning it and lubricated it made it finally snap. But at least other than the cable snapping the drive was pleasant.

Last I heard it was on, remember a while back it snowed while we were there but was light, most of the weather here was ice and I wasn't going to drive my hot rod in that.

    See you next weekend.

My dog died on Dec 31st and got a new puppy for my kid this weekend, so I've spent my time cleaning up puppy chit all weekend, lol.

I did crawl around under the car some. When fall hit I noticed a funny rattle whenever I hit a large bump in the street. Haven't found anything loose under there yet, but the guy that built the car has turned out to be notorious for leaving nuts and bolts loosely tightened. So I'm checking everything that could potentially come apart and kill me, lol.

I'm still thinking about what I want to work on. My wife said that I've thought about it long enough, to which I said, You have to think these things thru, if you rush into it, you're going to make mistakes! I might reload some ammunition. Then again, I might think about it some more.

Making a decision whether to repair the right side frame stub after a brake failure and hitting the first turn wall at Perris Auto Speedway while leading a heat race at 90+ mph in his Super/Pro Stock dirt car. I want to do it and found a front clip; he’s up in the air over it. If we do we will start running shorter tracks.

Spent the last 2 days working in better halfs office, was drafted as she is down 3 people out of 5. Today I have to get out and clear the slush from the driveway before it freezes tonight.

Never a long weekend for me, company’s contract calls for 7 days a week unless the parent company is closed (only a few days a year so we can all get our stuff from Amazon;) ). But this past week I was getting my old van Dorn valve refacer going, put a new motor on it, two belts and fired it up. All good. Engage the chuck an would randomly spin. Roll
It over and see there’s a 3rd belt up there to drive the chuck that is dry rotted. that’s gonna be fun to change. Taking Wednesday off to figure out how to pull it apart and change that belt.
Good news is in about 1.5 hours from now, I start an all OT shift with Holiday pay:). That’s what a good Monday is for me;)

^^^^^I'd sooo paint a Bat signal on that lens.
Interesting hood trim on that 36. Would you mind a closer pic of it? I'm just across the river from ya, maybe see ya at a function or three this year.

Thanks. It's a period aftermarket accessory. Made by Fulton. Not very common.
