@loudbang Jason Ward Says his grandpa, Glen Ward who was a drag racer and took these pictures, left him about 200 slides that he is in the prosses of developing so there should be plenty more to come.

    Hello,

Most of the photo articles on Hank Vincent’s Top Banana FED race car list the total measurement at 13 feet long and only 40 inches tall. The average living room sofa back is 35 inches, so, this FED was low and sleek.
    upload_2022-1-15_4-54-22.png
But, 13 feet overall does not take into account that there was approximately 3 feet of body work beyond the rear wheels and sliver of a nose in front. So, 13 feet minus approximately 3 feet, minus about 12 inches for the nose, works out to be 9 feet wheelbase = 108 inch wheel base.

Each rear wheel is 15 inches, so add 30 inches plus an extra 5 inches. 105 to 108 inch wheel base plus, is a pretty close estimate. Good estimation, guys!!!

Yes, Glenn Ward in the seat. This was the Howard Cams Special that Jack Chrisman later drove, after modifications. Glenn also had his own twin Chevy dragster.

Fred Waterworth's Bantam coupe, 371" Olds, from Southern California. He ran out of Ak Miller's shop in Whittier.

Glenn lived around 70 miles from me, at or near Beaver, Or. I still regret not taking the time to drive down and meet him.

Glenn was "at the controls of the Howard Cam Special", as recorded on the "Big Sounds of the Drags" record album.

Publicity shot for the San Fernando "Race for Lives," a kids charity event. That is Ernie Alvarado's Ernie's Camera Shop Fuller car with a blown Pontiac. Publicity was good for the drag strips, especially San Fernando, as they were constantly under fire for noise. I was digging through the Los Angeles Time archives and found this photo.

I gotta twin engine dragster question I THINK I know the answer to.
Twin engines give twice the HP as a single engine sooooo....did the builders raise the rear gear ratio (lower the numbers) to take advantage of the power?
(even though the slicks tech wasn't what it is today fer sure.)
Doing this would seem to hurt the launch but......1000 HP instead of 500HP!
    What's the answer?!!

296ardun -- you know more about these things than I do, but I thought Ernie's Camera ran an Cad, not a Pontiac. I probably couldn't ID either of them.
