Yikes are those shinny little bolts the only things holding that spring on

Its probably not as dire as it may look. The four bolts look to be at least 3/8" diameter and the mere fact that they are so long means a lot of energy can be stored up in them, or in other words, they have a lot of stretch built in. As long as the radius rods position the axle under the spring perch it probably worked acceptably well.

Owned and driven by Pee Wee Wallace out of Richmond, Virginia. He ran two more A/FX cars after this one, after that moved on to full fiberglass bodied AA/FC Funny Cars all named “The Virginian”, drove Funny Cars for others under car names of “Alabamian” and “Black Stang”. Hard competitor and friend, RIP Pee Wee.

The Simpson and Schaffer (probably misspelled) 334 coupe was a bad machine. I think it ran deep 7s before its ultimate demise. Dave Schaffer and his son both run altereds today. I lost track of Shawn. Always enjoyed see them at the track. First time was over 20 years ago.

They were pretty well known. I know I have posted several of their cars in the Super stock thread.

I'm using .095 chrome moly because I found it to be a couple bux more the 095 mild steel, weight make no difference in what I am doing and did not want to build out of .065. Bending the 11"R was expensive as I could not find any local bender that had the dies, so I had to have it rolled into an 11"R. 8 bends were $500 and I did the "Z" bend myself on my bender.
The purpose of this build is to show others that in 2022 , you can build a period perfect 1960 style dragster and using parts available within that timeframe. About the only modern items Im going to use are the rear axles, going with flange axles instead of tapered hubs on roller bearings

    Cute motor. Weber carbs?

Where did you source those front friction shocks? Spiffy

I used the VW Webber manifolds as they were cheap to build the manifold runners for a POTVIN style 4/71 blower set-up with Hilborn fuel injection. Designing the plenum as we speak
The Friction shock deal is something I CAD designed and sent out to be lazer cut upload_2023-2-10_11-53-5.jpeg t
