Chuck I believe that the Red Light Bandit was bought by Gary Parham after the 68 Winternationals and went to the Pacific Northwest. Bagshaw had run a solid axle early on but switched to a midyear and had some success before he built the 57. He ran both AHRA and NHRA with the car and lost at least once to Bill Coon's 57 Thunderbird I believe. Coon had won the 67 affair at Pomona but not sure he made the trip in 68. Still a strong running car. You did have some plastic eye candy when Bagshaw drove the Vette at the 68 Winternationals. Guys like Cattaneo, Britt, Dutre, Mallicone, and Naeb carried the colors pretty well. Bagshaw made it all the way to the finals in C/G. Earl Britt won class in F/MP and Deloy Naeb who had raced his 58 in MSP and MP switched to D/A and took class as well. Bo Laws in his 67 not only won class (D/SP) but also took the street eliminator title. Chuck you may have known Jim Gomes out of Oakland and he brought his 62 Vette and won class (E/SP) with Danny DiGiacomo doing the driving. These are names lost on me but you may have known them. About 1971 (I think) and still in high school there was a handful of local drag cars displayed in front of our school, one of them was Gary Parhams' Corvette.
I don't recall why, maybe one of those interventions to show us parking lot tire burning delinquents how it's really done, I do remember a few cars doing burnouts.

I looked at that photo again and just noticed Tom Chases' name on the side glass of Garys' Corvette, Tom worked at Radkes Auto Parts in Portland where I bought many parts for my drag car in the mid 70's.

The ultimate destiny of Bagshaw's '57 had escaped me. I just remember it so clearly because it was really tastefully presented. Jim, due to my early indoctrination into Stock and Super Stock classes, I have never paid much attention to Corvettes that were campaigned in Gas or Altered classes. Cars with cross-ram manifolding like Bill's car or the Dutre & Dutre '57 (distinctive hood scoops aside) looked stock enough to make an impression. A scoop big enough to cover a tunnel ram pretty much took any car, Corvette or not, out of my interest zone.

That picture must be dated 1974 or later because that's the year that NHRA began issuing permanent driver numbers that identified the home division of the competitor. Any permanent number beginning with "6" would have been from the Pacific Northwest, western Canadian provinces, Idaho, or Montana.

Chuck I believe I have other pictures of the car when it was owned by Parham but the paint scheme I believe was a bit wild so I am not sure you would like it versus the simplicity of the Red Light Bandit livery. You are probably right on the date with the large scoop and the driver numbers. I just removed all pictures from my computer and put them on thumb drives (having issues with my computer). My IT guy wants to install a new computer but I have resisted until I save many of my old emails. I will see if I can find other pictures when Parham owned it and maybe they are earlier.

Chuck I found another picture of Red Light Bandit when Parham owned it. You can see the scoop is the same as the when Bagshaw owned it. The other picture I believe is 1967 Pomona but not 100% sure. Bagshaw later.jpg

Not positive but that looks like Portland International Raceway (PIR), one of my home tracks along with Woodburn.
Curious what put the Corvette in the altered category.

Doug I wondered why he was running altered as well although I remember one day in 68 when Sam Gianino who had D/G on the rear quarter of his 57 Vette covered it up with a D/A sticker and ran altered. Not sure why but maybe D/A had more cars in class. Sam ran MSP in 67, gas in 68 and altered in 69 and had great success in all three classifications.

Here is a cool picture of the car being thrashed on in 1969 I believe before Logan owned it. A number of us remember thrashing on these cars.

Thank you for the history. I remember seeing it run some and I believe that pic was taken at Edgewater Drag Strip near Cincinnati. Beautiful Vette and didn’t know it’s history.

Apricot Brandy’s mid-year corvette. I remember this one since he lived on the same block as me. Car sounded incredible when he would fire it up. The first time we started the Road Runner with the headers uncapped he came flying around the corner to see what was going on. Good guy. 31E65848-1913-4E72-A2D6-1DAB597B31F9.jpeg

65 Pacecar lots of great pictures. Most of the guys on this thread probably know that Apricot Brandy was one of the most successful solid axle drag cars in history and it too was out of Ohio. Lots of great drag cars from Ohio for sure.

Corvette history is much better served that a few old Corvettes in drag racing trim escaped the clutches of the NCRS crowd. A lot of great history was established on the nation's drag strips with these old warriors. Much more interesting to me than whether a restored Corvette has the correct markings on the various bolts.

A few more. Didn’t realize it was still carrying the original paint from 50 years ago. Pretty amazing for a drag car. 16259FCF-6499-43E1-B607-B77377EF7448.jpeg 0A6C7681-DBE0-4515-A1E5-DE859D4C8842.jpeg 72254ABA-8AB4-4E8B-9E81-10210844949B.jpeg 222D5F0D-039A-4732-B38F-45184F006AA3.jpeg 1FB3CBE8-3C5F-40D0-8859-1F109F757285.jpeg 27AA892B-AB9D-4477-8B3E-4B6E78F80979.jpeg

  27. There's a stocker that needs chrome reverse wheels & pearl paint. Custom interior wouldn't hurt, either. That would be a hot rod!

Still looking for a good picture of Apricot Brandy when it was called "The Stinger" and it was black ( I believe since I have only seen grainy pictures in black and white). The car had great success in the 60s when it ran as 'The Stinger.

65 Pacecar do you remember it in the 60s?
