So the merc brought big bucks. I guess this would make it the HOLY GRAIL of custom cars. Some of us speculated on selling price. Since we are speculating, What could be the HOLY GRAIL of Hot Rods?? OPINONS

The Sam Barris Merc is my “holy grail” of customs, and the McGee/Scritchfield ‘32 is my ultimate hot rod.

If I had the means, I would gladly pay millions for either.

  4. For me it's a toss up between the Tom McMullen 32 Roadster, the McGee-Scritchfield roadster and the Kookie Car.

  7. Mine is your 59 El Camino Bruce. (But I guess it's not a custom)

  8. I have heard it said the McMullen 32 is the ultimate hot rod but in my humble opinion the McGee/Scritchfield roadster owned by Bruce Meyer holds that honor. HRP

My first thought was the McMullen '32, But I think I'd rather have the Pierson Bros. coupe...and, of course, the tow car;)

I would agree, but I like the version that showed up on the old “B” movies and television shows back when it was a working hot rod.

    I dislike perfection.

Isky's model "T" roadster. There's something about that car that just draws me in, I guess because every piece of that car was carefully chosen to work in harmony with everything else.

The holy grail of hot rods would have to be the one you build yourself and puts a smile on your face every time you drive it or throw the garage door open and it's there waiting for you.

The Doane Spencer Roadster and the Niecamp Roaster are two that have always done it for me simply because they are timeless and never look dated.
I've never cared much for the McMullen roadster simply because it always looked a bit tacky to me. The Graffiti deuce shouldn't be even considered even though I still believe that someday there will be a graffiti Deuce nationals where all the cow piss yellow coupes can sit side by side and compare piston shift knobs and decide who's grill shell is perfectly out of place.

For my taste, it would have to be Ed Iskenderian's roadster, it just has the right look and stance and everything about it, is just kick ass in my humble opinion.

Silver Saphire or Spencer Murray’s Dream Truck! Those 2 really trip my trigger.
