Pulled out parts axle apart. Needed a better spindle but found out it had been updated to u-joint axles. (top)
Our axle we are building had the Bendix type axle. (Bottom)

The donor set up also had these locking hubs in great condition

the u-joint style requires a c-clip on the hub, this c-clip is removed to run the locking hubs
The Bendix style axles do not need c-clips.
Anyone with any experience on these?
The spindle with the u-joint axles has a dinged up bushing

the side with the Bendix style does not

these bushings are being replaced.

 

Didn’t have a pipe deep enough so we turned the axle around

 

I'd like to have a early Jeep for a project, think T bucket with a Jeep body...

 

I’ve kicked that around with the leftovers. But not really a t bucket style.
Use a transverse style from axle moved slightly forward. Low with a rake. Keeps the fenders.
I have a DJ windshield frame that is shorter than the CJ.

 

this is a factory 2wd DJ
Bob the rails, move the front axle slightly forward, lose the step, dropped with a rake.
Similar style top but lowered about 3-4 inches

 

Something like this.. Ww-2 body sitting on a 2wd (70s) Dj-5 (postal) chassis.. N-50s on 10" rims & a 4:10 posi .
Soon to get a 231 V6 & fenderwell headers . (maybe chop the windshield 4-5" to)

Anthony- I am to far away from Somewherin Al to be practical, but we have an orchard sprayer in the shed with what I was always told was a jeep engine- maybe a hurricane? Might also have seen them running water pumps for irrigation. Might be an affordable source of an engine. Give me some notice if you are making a pilgrimage to Detroit.

 

He’s been doing some work on the the jeep.
Crank turned, engine block ready for the machine shop
Axles cleaned and new seals.
His frame had a push bar welded on that they removed about an inch of the frame. We had a donor frame and he swapped over the frame horns.

We’ve also rebuilt the trans and working in the T-case.
Waiting on some spring shackles and we will assemble the chassis.

thanks. We located a rebuildable core.
I’d love to visit the ford museum one day.

 

Installed the new shackle mounts and replaced the butchered engine mount with a donor piece.
The frame we are using was 2wd. We’re adding the hitch brace the 2wds didn’t get

 

Kids been busy.
Front axle assembled. Chassis sprayed.
We’ll assemble the chassis, give it a scuff-n-clean and shoot it all together.

He’s full time college. Works full time during the summer and does online classes. So we work on it as he has time.

Using and extra engine and trans to fit things up.

making a tab to help a 2a engine plate fit a 3a chassis.

I always checked the blocker ring gap..The NOS forged have the proper gap
Differential inner seal install tool..

 

You'd be better off starting with a re-body of a Samurai frame with a flat fender Jeep body.[MB]
The wheelbase is within 1/2"

The engine and trans will need moving rearward [the transfer box is stand alone].

If you were into serious off roading the Sammy frame would out perform most Jeeps even with a 1300 to 1600 engine.
A stock Sammy hardtop weighs 1900 lbs but with a stripped down Jeep Body it would lose about 400 lbs

 

You guys are moving right along! I just picked up a ‘44 GPW on an MB chassis. Such neat little machines!

 

Kid fabricated his first piece by himself.

 

If that's his first piece he's headed down the right path.
