Killer post man. That’s such a thrill finding a little un expected nugget of gold under the dust.

A few years back placing the hopup water slide into my windshield I couldn’t help feel a pang of nostalgia and a feeling that I was just building a giant model.

  4. Really cool. The sad thing is that if you want to use them when they are that old, it can be a challenge. It helps to use modern solutions to soften them up and get them to lay on the surface without wrinkling or breaking.

Round 2 models is reissuing a lot of old AMT and MPC kits with brand new vintage decals. Here is the decal sheet from their recent 37 Chevy coupe release..., and my build up of it. 37chevydecals.jpg IMG_1298.jpg

    What a haul !!!!
I saw the name Donna Marie Mims ( underneath it said “Think Pink “. In her day, she was the most Bad ass Corvair driver going…..yeah, driving her pink Corvair or Corvette, or TR3.
On top of that, not a bad looker either 5A14071A-08A1-4F74-9A79-2610BE54591F.jpeg

Those decal sheets let to the formation of the SPEED EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION! An attorney for Revell reached out to some of the companies making speed equipment and asking if there was an association representing these companies. The attorney was looking for a single source to get permission to use the manufacturer's logos on model car decal sheets. The rest, they say, is history and SEMA was born. I joined SEMA when Dean Moon was president.

    Fun to look !!!
I admitt I did things to model cars in early 50s,that I'd never wanted to do too a real car, later.
But I loved flames,an used them on many racecars for years.

That is cool, the decals were always cool to check out whenever you got a new model car kit. Speaking of board games do you have this one ( I’ll take better photos later today). 7D8A15F3-F432-4F81-9EAC-02EBD98D6ED6.jpeg

Those are great! I always loved the Kat from AMT ones.

My Dad passed on his parts bin and unused decals to me when I was a kid in the late 70s. The majority of them where from '54-'62 and at the time decals were still pliable and usable. Can't imagine that that would still be the case today.

Here's my favorite game (and TV show) from when I was a kid. I still have it, but this is just a picture off the web.

You can buy some printable decal paper, scan the old ones and print them as new decals to preserve the originals and have decals that will work better than the old dry ones. I make my own decals when I am building a replica of a car in 1:24 scale.

  13. Yes! Usta play it regularly back in the early/mid-'70's. I'd usually get stuck with the lemons. :)

Very cool. But weren’t you tempted to buy some of the model kits themselves?

Nice one, Joey. Those tiny little decals look real good on old Schwinn Stingrays.

Where can I see more of the Teenage Thunder roadster? That cowl/windshield/dash treatment looks pretty unique

Great story, Joey. I loved building models as a kid. I think we may all have when first introduced to modeling and these killer decal sets were to use them all on one build! As an artist, it taught me how to practice restraint. Took a long while though!

I just watched it on you tube, full length. There are 3 Hot Rods, very traditional. Lol. Watch for the speedometer, they show the same one for 3 different cars. Also, the drag strip has a very long 1/4 mile. All in all, not too bad of a movie, imho. First time seeing it. Ron

  29. I love 1/25. I love the decals, although there's a lot of mediocre art amongst it. But the good stuff makes it all so lovable. The Monogram Tom Daniel stuff, Rommels Rod, the yellow VW Kombi with the mid -mount 327.. Ok '70's murals, getting off track.
I love the contingency stuff from Revell '74/75 (A40, Henry J). Another Revell favourite is the classic early Olds- powered Stone/ Woods/Cooke Willys decal sheet.

Great article, it's nice to see the connection most of us have with model cars, a friend who I used to build models with in my childhood, gave me an envelope with similar decals from the early '60's. It's fun to try and remember what cars came with the decals. I remember using all the decals on the model.......... you had to use them didn't you ?
