New kit out on the shelves.... with vintage box art... I already bought 2 of these.... It also come with a 392 hemi with 5 different induction setups...
I remember a hobby shop in the downtown Pittsburgh area called Bill and Walt’s. Two or three floors of model kits, trains, and comic books! Is that the same place? Cardboard box buildings (and cardboard railroad tunnels) bring back great memories!
Just some quick pics I took of these the other day to show a friend. These are mid 70's era RC Planes.
I ended up with the hobby shop display for that engine kit a million years ago from the hobby shop my dad grew up in. Foolishly, I traded it to to Mark Gustavson for his museum for vintage custom model parts. Sadly, right in the middle of it, I moved, so he got the display, but I never got the custom parts. The display is indeed in the museum, so I guess that's a consolation. LOL
That engine kit was the predecessor to all the 1/8 scale Monogram model kits... The engine kit first came out in 1960 and the BiG T + the BiG Deuce came out in 1962-1963...
I'll start with a couple of nearly pure survivor models blue one all I had to do was replace tires and moon caps and reglue a few small things. Original release amt. Red one is all original aside from rear tires. Iirc around 1970-73 release
This was one of my early good scores. Only things I replaced were the missing engine and the firewall. Oh and the tow bar. Another original release (most of my vintage models are original release lol). Paint cleaned up nicely with a dry towel. Still tickled over the nearly entirely intact vintage decals on it
These two were another lucky find. 1959 release amt 32 Ford roadster that aside from the actually stitched cloth interior has many other low key heavy modifications. Original release coupe just has vintage medical tape to emulate tuck and roll. Basically the roadster was disassembled and the coupe only partially assembled in the very early sixties before being thrown in the original box for the roadster and stored in an attic until someone found them and tossed on eBay last year as a "vintage amt 32 Ford parts lot.". Was able to match the blue on the coupe and finish it. Roadster paint is as removed from the attic. I think I had to replace the windshield and that's it
Another original release eBay parts lot find. Only things I had to replace were the wheels. As it was early in my turn to vintage models I restored this one. Interior has the untouched "fuzzy seats" lol. But it's back to how it was originally
This one was my second parts lot score. Yet another 1959 issue amt 32 Ford roadster. Channelled with fenders. Few custom interior tweaks. And a dragon decal I still haven't figured out where they got it. I've since replaced the missing parts and left the rest as is. I did later find the missing original top. Dragon decal saved it from a repaint lol
This one is a 1960 or 61 release amt chopped t kit. Body, floor, interior, glass, and decals are original on this. After Posting this in a model page a guy caught undertones of me not liking the new release parts I had to use on the rest of it. So he mailed me a complete bare black plastic 60/61 release chassis with engine along with a good bit of chrome for it. It's even rocking vintage tires now. Theme people notice on my vintage stuff is I value vintage decals more than vintage paint lol. Again decals are why this body was untouched
