Hot Rods 1940 Ford coupe show car from 1963

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Dec 28, 2021.

  1. That interior, love it or hate it was really ahead of its time. The style (contrasting pleats) became popular in the kustom revival of the 80s.

While not to that extent, factory cars of the 60's had upholstery that did that. Especially Pontiac.

So, the coupe is listed as sold on marketplace. Anyone here the new lucky owner?

I am the new caretaker of a stash of pictures from an older friend of mine. That car is in them. I think from a show at the D.C. armory. Will post them. Gene.

Sorry...pictures of pictures. The truck was in the same group of pictures. Looking at the color and running boards...maybe same owner? Or at least same group of guys?? Gene. image000000 (28).jpg image000000 (27).jpg

Another older friend of mine, Ed Jubb (Walt's Body Shop, South Baltimore), that passed this year, was very suprised to see his car with the same group of pictures. He said he was pretty sure this was at the D.C. Armory. Gene. image000000 (29).jpg

Man, I love old pictures, you should post em here for square pics
    https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/3x3-square-photo-thread.1167650/

    and here for rectangular.
    https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/vintage-rectangular-photo-thread.1168077/

I am sure everyone would love to see them and I wouldn't worry about using photos of photos. That is what I did and I just cropped them so there was nothing but the picture showing

Very cool...I will post some from time to time. I think there is about 100 or so. Gene.

  11. Looks like that photo indicates the '40 was from the Hopewell, Virginia area. Yes, likely from the Ram Rods show at the D.C. Armory circa 1965. Hopefully some of the Virginia guys on here (@D-Russ image000000 (27).jpg or @Just Gary, @TomT , @Hamtown Al ) can shed some light on the history.

Ram Rods...I met a couple of those guys and got a chance to visit their meeting place/garage/club house. Some where in an industrial park near an airport I think. Montgomery County Md. I think. Had to be close to 20 years ago.
That was a VERY cool venture for me. Gene.

  14. The interior appears to be in such good shape it would be a crime to remove it but holy cow, it's hard on the eyes. It's almost like a guy that sewed up the early 60's Pontiac Ventura interiors went completely insane sitting at his sewing machine and this was the result. Must have been something else in its day.

When ever you buy something, then something like this comes along. When I was looking for a '40 Coupe, lots of things showed up that I would have enjoyed owning/driving. But, they were not '40 Coupes so I waited and found my '40 Coupe last April. One of my requirements was that it was running (not a project), and I could start enjoying it right away. Didn't have to be perfect and could need some work, but had to be a driveable vehicle and no MII suspension/steering. Don't get me wrong, I like my Coupe and am having fun with it, both driving and working on it. But, if I had waited just a little longer, this one would be sitting in my garage. Probably needs lots of work to be driveable, but for something like this I would have made an exception. Of course, if I hadn't bought my '40, Murphys Law says something else would have come along and I still couldn't have bought this one. Oh well, I will have to be happy with what I have.

Like others here, I hope the new owner is a HAMB member, and if not, will join and let's us share in his good fortune. Just hoping it wasn't a flipper or someone that wants to make a bunch of changes, ie: making it original. Ron

  18. I remember this coupe when it was white and had a small amount of tasteful red striping. It was one of the better hot rods in Hopewell in the early '60's.

  19. The coupe used to live at Garrett's Esso station across the street in this picture. 1960 Garretts_n.jpg

  20. So, looks like the show pictures may have been in Richmond and not at the D.C. Armory show. Great detective work by everyone.:)

@yankee mike what's the plans?...it looks in need of some love but still remains quite the time capsule...I didn't see that in the original shared images...

It certainly needed a change of scenery without a doubt...

I see you have the 6x2 intake that was on that car in the old pics for sale in the classifieds. Just wondering what is currently on it?
