    Looking to rewire my 6v generator to 12v for both my Rusty Banger Roadster and my AV8 flathead. I have 2 or 3 6v generators laying around. I really don’t want to continue running alternators on my old traditional style rods. I’ve been doing searches. Lots of information out there. Lots of conflicting information. Also a lot of old broken links. I’m looking for a clear step by step process, a parts list, and where to order the parts. TM

    Mark, you are really making it happen! I am so glad that we crossed paths on my build thread and that you've been documenting your projects. It won't be long and we'll be meeting up in our A-V8s. Hope you had a Merry Christmas and a great start to the New Year.

    6:1 Snyder’s Head for Ratty (the rusty roadster). Now to make it look like the original old head.

    What do you mean “make it look like the original old head”?

    Good question Oil Soup. I love this old banger roadster the way it is; however, I do want to give it some new life and a few more horses. So I’m going to do some upgrades to warm it up a bit and still try to keep the original barn find look. (Also read that as - no new shiny parts). TM.

    That should be fairly straight forward if you have the matching green paint, the rust is easily duplicated.

    Yeah. I still need to figure out the paint color. Agree that rust shouldn’t be a problem. I was told the old motors that color may be rebuilt motors from Montgomery Ward. Not sure.

    Found this in a box of family papers. Ralph Long was my father. This could have very well been his first car.

  16. OOOPS!... I guess you just have the paper work, not the car itself. It's early, I'm still half asleep! It still is such a cool treasure. I would frame it for posterity.

    Kind of has a Buick look. This one isn't exactly the same, though.

    Any recommendations on who I can talk with to learn how to wire a Model A 6v pos ground generator to 12v negative ground?

    Mr. Monkey, can you take a picture of the "business side" of that 6:1 head please?
    Wiring;
    Key on power through ballast resistor to + coil. -coil to distributor.
    And I run a 12v voltage regulator wired to a converted 12v generator. I looked up 12volt simple Wiring diagram and followed it.
    Hope this helps

    Wheeldog57 - I’ll post the head pic shortly. Yeah, I’m good with car 12v conversations. I’m looking to rewire the actual generator for 12v neg ground. I don’t want to run an alternator. I see that I can order the 12v windings. I believe I have to do some other work including the cut out…

    Thank you for the picture of the head.
    I will look at my car later today and report back how my generator is wired up
