I know longer is better. but with the panhard bar being on a short travel suspension we shortened the bar rather than take the chance of it ever hitting the housing...
cut, but still needs to be tapped 5/8"-18 RH
just a note, the speedway panhard bar is the correct inner diameter, so to cut and tap it shorter isn't too bad... doesn't need to be bored...
also added a pair of Hurst motor mounts, a little high, but ok... speedway tranny mount...
    body pic for motivation.

i can't leave well enough alone... i spied these 1953-'56 Caddy air conditioning scoops here on the hamb,
well now "they" won't leave me alone... i see them as a scoop that will bolt in to a '30-'31 tank top...
slight downward swoop at the tail, easy to fix...[file]
a little more arch than the tank across the front, but the rubber appears thick enough to fill it...
i will mount a like shaped funnel and drain tube under the cowl ...
i will have to reach under and hook the funnel to the vent with a little clip for a rainy day...
i already have put a '32 cowl top into the A tank, but this intrigues me....

That's different all right. I think I would use them as intended though under my dash for the AC vents. All ready have a cowl vent. They are a cool looking piece more art deco style from the thirties then fifties. Like the way you are thinking outside the box Smitty.

Smitty it would be nice if you could use it as a vent/scoop for outside air and have the drain work only when you cap/close it off. Is that the plan?

I just reread your post on it and think you have it covered...:)

    yup... that is the plan...
on a convertible it won't run in the rain as often as a coupe...
was told they were outside on the caddy's rear clip not under dash.
    .
had some small dents and a couple pin holes... grabbed another tank, looked pretty good, cut off the tank, cut and drilled the tank top for the vent...
when i sanded the outer skin i had a half dozen rust holes appear... errr!
should have just gone with the first one...

i bought a steel one on ebay, for a bucket seat, but it was set up so to cut it and widen the unlocking lever is easy, going under a brown school bus seat for starters, later?

What about using those air vents in the sides of the cowl for a scoop or sorts?
