A friend of mine owns a 49 Ford 4 door and is looking for a headliner, but says all he can find online is stuff for coupes. Will a coupe headliner work for a 4 door of that vintage? Thanks in advance for any help
4 Door is all by itself. I went to Achme upholstery where I've bought many through the years but there web sight is down. Google them for a phone number and give them a call on Monday. It's always been the best deal going for Factory style headliners. There's one in my Avitar, installed without an issue. A year ago we installed one in my 57 Hardtop.
Coupe, Tudor and Fordor all have different headliners. Tudor Sedan and Fordor Sedan may be very close but they are different. Coupes...These have a much shorter roof than a Tudor or Fordor.
Worst case scenario, a good upholstery guy can stitch one up easy enough. Hopefully all of the bows are present and in good shape.
Macs/Ecklers has the "Cartouche Brand". I can't help but think this is where some of the LaBaron-Bonney stuff went. They do not offer just the headliner online or in the catalog, you'll/he'll have to call them.
Just checked Macs site and found this: https://www.macsautoparts.com/cloth...sedan-bodystyles-73a-73b-49-13730-a810-1.html. Looks like it's what he is looking for, but will show him this and let him talk to Macs. Thanks for the tip on Macs
Just for the record, if your friend has never installed a headliner, give some thought to turning it over to a professional. It can be the most onerous and frustrating part of any upholstery job. He may wind up saying terrible words and his neck will be sore, stiff and crooked for weeks afterwards.
Good quality. I enjoyed cartouche seat set for my old F1. The F1 Truck interior is cheap....all they are is a seat cover and some cardboard. Now cars...Much, much, different and much more expensive.
Yes... He can probably do it. He could also do brain surgery on his dog, and it just might live. But....
Absolutely agree! I know a guy that does upholstery work and have already given my buddy his name and number.
I see there is more than one Acme upholstery named business. The one I have used for years is the one at 550 W 16th st Long Beach Ca. 562-437-0061. I checked online again and none of their drop-down menus are working on the Websight. I think it's worth a call.
Hell I can say terrible words just because it's Monday or any other day of the week. Have you buddy look into whether strips at the same time, cutting the glass out makes saving the glass much easier.
